Sorry G no one has said if he takes a currently prohibited substance he shouldn't be banned. If you don't want to engage in the wider discussion that came from it, fair enough...:emoticon-0148-yes:no one is using that wider discussion to justify his actions so with respect let us continue with our discussion without second guessing our motivations cheers..

They're a diuretic that also increase metabolic rate, and they're also used as a mask for steroids.

Get some T shirts printed lad

And the worst thing about this whole, sorry mess? I agree with Stan Collymore (or, more likely, he reads this site and agrees with me). ****.

    Not that at all.

I'll repeat if it's about a level playing field rather than health and safety then why allow different training regime?

A runner or tennis player from Turkistan can't afford the techniques of an American athlete and his back up team. They can't send their player off to stand in injury recovery in minus 200 degree cool boxes etc. Is that not an unfair advantage just because one country is richer than the other?

They allow Creatine because it's "natural" despite worries in studies of long term effects on health but not replacement blood therapy (what's more natural than an athletes own blood?) which has no studies showing harm to the athlete. They allow one pain killer but not another.

It's inconsistent and a fudged reasoning outside of the notable extremes like anabolic steroids.

I mean..anabolic steroids are banned in boxing and the main reason given is potential harm to athlete.....in a sport where the main aim is to concuss your opponents to the point of unconsciousness....

I really don't get how people cannot see how a stiff and sore tennis player or footballer or any other skilled athlete... which I'm interested to know who cycling or middle distance running is not mental and ta tidal BTW. .... won't be as good as a fresher one.

You can be able to say play great in 1st round of Wimbledon but get to qf and the aches from a couple 4 hour games will show.

Throw in a few bits and bobs and a guy can be as fresh as day one.

It's the same now in prem. In August you can run all day but by now some 50 games later you are aching. Have to be.

Shako took a substance off books cos he felt pressure. He probably has taken it several times and not got caught as there's worrying background info.

I've a zero tolerance policy to thus. He's got to go do his time.

You can't level the playing field by allowing certain drugs ffs

The sporting drugs industry moves at a pace and the authorities are constantly playing catch up.

Lasse Viren allegedly used to have a complete blood transfusion, chocka with red blood cells, before the competition season. More imposrtantly, he did during winter training as well. At the time it was considered a sneaky but legal way around the system. I think he waved the "I've got a medical condition, don't you know?" flag too. Flag of convenience, in truth.

I'm not mate...I'm just saying they should quit with the "performance enhancing" angle and stick to "unsafe". If you use the first excuse it allows people to justify "balancing inequalities" ...the Kenyans for example...

But many of the banned performance enhancing substances are safe

Vicks nasal spray being one of them...
