Interesting that Northampton can afford those numbers when they were in danger of insolvency.

I have just read it up. Northampton Council loaned the football club £10.5M to build a new stand. The stand has not been completed. It seems there are claims that a large part of the finance provided may have been misappropriated. I read that he police have arrested the ex chairman and he was released on bail.
Could this mean that the club will be penalised? I don't know.

Somebody needs to do a Case Study on Accrington Stanley to see what
    they're doing right.
Second in the league, no agents' fees and a crowd on Saturday of 2,222!

I've just taken this from the Accrington Website.
On 1st January 2016 they reduced there admission charges by 25%. Adults £20 to £15; Concessions £15 to £10......

Chairman Peter Marsden voiced his financial concerns at the recent Annual General Meeting, and pointed out that we need far more support from Stanley fans.

The club reported a loss of £400,000 for the financial year last term, and Marsden admitted that attendances so far this season had been 'very disappointing' and for him it was on the verge of 'heartbreaking' as despite lowering ticket prices in an effort to boost gates this term, the take up hasn't had the desired effect with the local community not responding and turning up to games more often.

The chairman said that Stanley were perfectly up to date with HM Revenue and custom payments, so fans didn't need to worry on that score, but down the line unless things change and Stanley don't receive greater backing and the financial benefits that would bring, he fears there could be trouble.

'We are up to date with tax but there could be problems ahead. I don't want a repeat of the SOS situation, which would be deeply embarrassing and humiliating for me. I don't want charity but is it asking too much of the people of Accrington to come to two or three games and support us? It would be a national disaster if anything happened to this club, now is the time when people can do something.'

Four years ago obviously the club ran into trouble with a tax bill and an appeal had to be made to raise funds towards a liability of £308,000 to save the club from going out of business.

Marsden adds that during his time as a director he's put in £200,000 to the club and £100,000 between July and April this year, but obviously he can't keep funding the club like, but even though his shareholder level is only 10% he felt he need to lead by example. Fellow directors have also put in £250,000 between them since last May, but the club needs to move towards being self sustaining.

Interesting about the Northampton situation. I cant see anything happening to them though. Accy are making huge losses and will be making further losses as lowering the ticket prices has not improved the attendance and those turning up are now paying less so they are getting less gate receipts! They cant survive like that.

Sapphire I know we all want league 1 football next season but I wouldn't want Northampton to be penalised through the ex chairman miss appropriating funds as I believe the players were not paid by the club for a couple of months. The players and management deserve promotion for what they have been through in the respect of not being paid though if the money has been misused by the chairman then I hope he pays for it.

Absolutely agree Old Timer. The guys on the pitch should never have to pay for the events which occur outside of their control. Smoke bombs included! Unless of course their efforts are bolstered by unfair means to reach that achievement.
It wasn't my intention to suggest that Northampton should be penalised, but the pratts at the FL sometimes see things differently.

It didn't stop Swindle getting bumped down a couple of leagues back around 1999 !!
And it was the players & fans who suffered the consequences !!!!

They've never chopped and changed managers, and I think the current manager was with them before, so he knows the club and what he has to work with.

John Coleman, Accrington's current manager was their manager from 1999 to 2012 and then came back in 2014.

Swindon got dumped for incorrectly advising the league of the transfer fee that they paid Rovers for our C / H. Man U were also found guilty of the same charge but they were just fined under the one law for the rich and one law for the rest
