How many of you still go for traditional Sunday Drives?

Some of my happiest childhood memories are of hopping in the car with my family and just driving with no particular destination in mind. I haven't done that in many years as all my driving seems to be destination based which is kind of sad. When I have kids we will do the traditional Sunday drive where you just drive and if a road looks interesting you take it and if a landmark looks interesting you stop. Of course, I love driving so that kind of thing appeals to me.

I'm not talking about driving the motorways. Driving and exploring in the countryside is far from boring as you will always come across new landscapes and scenery

Depends where you live, around me - if you've seen one field, then you've seen them all.

I often drive aimlessly and have found so many places I'd never find otherwise. Should try go camping, or take up something like gardening, I know sounds old, but just learning how to be patience is a virtue many today don't have.

I don't really like camping but I find working in the garden and fishing (although I don't get to do that as much as I would like) very relaxing and therapeutic.

By camping I often practice bushcraft, or survival skills, navigating, hunting, snaring, building shelter etc, rather than just sitting around.

as for fishing, can't beat it! :D

The west of NI - lovely countryside round here and I enjoy it as much as possible. Pity about the weather at times though

Petrol prices, and no matter what you do on a Sunday you just cant avoid that pre-Monday tension that pervades once all the footrball has finished.

Plus staying at homes means less chance of hit by an uninsured driver, or getting a speeding ticket.

Driving in the UK is now largely on the basis of needs. Given the cost of motoring (~ £100 for a full tank on mine) I now prefer to walk whereever possible.

If I did go for a drive though, it'd be along the North Wales coast (Prestatin or summat). Once I drove back from Newport in Wales through Monmouth towards the Midlands as the sun was setting and it was a fantastic experience, made all the better having completed the task I was sent there for.

Hadn't been up the North Coast of N.Ireland in years and went up there with my a few family members back in June. Hit the Causeway, Portstewart etc. and seen all the Castles etc up that way. Honestly couldn't remember any of it from when I was a kid, some stunning sights.

I'm sure when I have kids of my own I'll take them away for the weekend etc. but for now my weekends consist of heavy boozing and football. Sundays are usually too painful to move from my bed nevermind go out for the day

Lotus? My dad used to take me out to a field in his Larda then beat me with a sock full of pennies and make me find my own way back on a spacehopper

That's nothing I had to bring my own pennies and use my own sock. I wish I had a spacehopper for the journey home!

Seeing as I know nothing of cars except that I liked Road Rash, what your post looks like to me is a very hard algebra equation
