If it is to be the play offs for us, that should mean both Accrington and Oxford would join Northampton getting automatic promotion as I think Plymouth has too much to do. Cambridge is the only team now that can catch the play off spots but I think they got too much to do too. So that would mean its us, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Wimbledon in the play offs. Who would you want to face in the play offs?
Looking at those three sides I'd have to be honest and say that I don't fancy our chances playing any of them, this is probably a bit of Monday morning negativity but I just think if it is going to be the play offs then we'd struggle to get through the first tie.
I though the same last season in the play offs. I failed to beat both FGR and Eastleigh in the league and Grimsby was always going to be tough too. But we made it.
I have to be honest, I haven't felt very optimistic about our chances in the play-offs for months now, and although I can't really explain why I feel like this, I think its just a gut feeling that I can't shift, and nothing's changed. I think we're putting in such a huge effort to make an automatic spot, if we fail at the eleventh hour,(which is quite feasible ), we will be so deflated that I wonder if we could maintain our momentum to get through what would be 3 very tough games. I've said it before on the forum and I still stand by it, I think it is crucial that we secure automatic promotion, cos I'm genuinely concerned about our chances in the play-offs. I also think that following the Stevenage draw, the most important game of the season is next Sat at York. I have no doubt we will beat Dagenham the following week but we definitely need 3 points at York which on paper, wont be as easy as some people seem to think.
Well its now confirmed that if we dont make the top 3, it will be Wimbledon in the play offs for us. Wimbledon cant move from 7th now regardless of how they get on next Saturday. The other play off game is confirmed as Plymouth v Portsmouth. What is up for grabs in that game though is who will be the home team 1st. That will depend on the final league position.
I think we're in good shape whatever happens on Saturday. And we've got plenty experience of a tense final if it comes to that.
If it does pan out that you are not top 3 - the other teams in the play-offs will not fancy playing you that's for sure
I think that if it is us and them, it could be a record league 2 play off final attendance. Would be a good pay out for both sides too.
Went up to York last week and stayed for a few days taking in the match, a couple of Pompey supporters dropped their wives off in York to go shopping and they travelled up to Hartlepool for their match. Wished us luck for the rest of the season and hoped we made promotion automatically but if we didn't then they hoped we would make the playoff final against them because they thought we would at least sell the stadium out
