I was making a more general point, in that some players always seem to be sidelined through injury, while others are able to play on despite being injured. Pelle is clearly in the latter category, which is very much to his credit. On the subject of knee injuries, both Mick Channon and Peter Osgood basically ended up with wrecked knees as a result playing through injury. You'd have to ask them (well, Mick anyway) if that was a price worth paying. I suspect he'd say it was, if you got him on a good day - and I also suspect he's the sort of bloke who doesn't have too many bad days.
Ossie could hardly walk when I knew him and that was only 10 years after playing. He used to moan more about sore elbows though, but with a big grin as he thought about the centre backs who had copped said elbows
Strange how attitudes have changed. People admired uncompromising players then, but I can imagine what we'd say if anyone kept elbowing our players now.
I think we'll equal last seasons 60 points at best (2 wins from 3). Sadly with the games in hand, the trio above us, Man U, Pool & West Ham only need 2 wins our of 4 to keep above that mark. Hope we keep ahead of Chelsea and secure a very respectable 8th. We might not be able to offer European football next season, but we have three consecutive Top 10 finishes to show we're no flash in the pans
To beat Palace, to avoid defeat in at least one of our games against City and Spurs, and to finish above Chelsea. I highly doubt that that would be enough to get us 7th, but 8th is acceptable.
Didn't want to count my chickens, Chelsea still have a game in hand....I'll meet you half way - consecutive Top 9 finishes
I agree....if we win only one more game (=57 points), Chelsea have to get 3 wins and a draw minimum (=57 points, assuming that reverses our better GD). Unlikely.
With the somewhat limited scenarios available at this stage, I would like to see the gap between us and Chelsea extend to 10pts, so as to give rise to the expression "The Top 8" as a distinct group. Chelsea are welcome to be the "best of the rest".
Win our home game against Palace, who will surely have their minds on not getting injured for the cup final, and Ron would've beaten Poch's total of 56 for the second time.
