Nigel Miller is tomorrows ref. Last time he was a ref in our game it was Bradford 2 Rovers 2 in September 2011. Rovers went 1-0 up (Matt Harrold header). Ref then gave Bradford a pen to make it 1-1. We scored again (Eliot Richards screamer). Ref gave a 2nd pen to Bradford in injury time and they scored. Not often you see 2 pens given to the same team in the same game!
Just of interest if we had the same system they have in US sports where position in a division is determined by how many you win (first) then the table would look like this. 1. Northampton W 27 D 12 L5 2. Gas W 24 D 7 L 13 3. Accrington W 23 D 12 L 9 4. Plymouth W 23 D 8 L 13 5. Oxford W 22 D 14 L 8 6. Wombles W 20 D 11 L 12 7. Pompey W 19 D 15 L 9 How sweet this looks we would only have to win one more game to gain promotion
Yes i know what you mean. But there are other results that shouldnt have happened that may hurt us. The defeat at Carlisle. The defeat at Wycombe. Im sure there are other games too where we would be thinking how did we lose that or draw that! I was fuming after the Stevenage game in midweek as the players didnt perform well and DC in my mind made the wrong decisions with team selection and tactics like playing way too defensive. We can still get top 3 though. Its not over. But on paper we have the easiest last 2 games - both relegated teams. But they will be tough games. York beat Portsmouth midweek. Dag & Red beat Plymouth today. So we cant just turn up thinking we will roll them over. If we can get 6 points from these 2 games then I believe we will be top 3. I cant see both Oxford and Accrington winning both their last games. If they do though then fair shout to them. Next week we will have a better understanding. Carlisle V Oxford Wycombe V Accrington York V Rovers Not easy games for Oxford and Accrington. Just need 1 to slip up and we do the job at already relegated York. Then its back in our hands again with the last game at home where we have won the last 8 games in a row and won 11 of the last 12 home games. What a place to win promotion.
Plymouth look out of it now. They have to win their last 2 games and hope at least 1 of Oxford or Accrington fail to win both remaining games and hope we lose at least 1 of our games. Thats a lot of hoping! Oh well
Re automatic promotion. After the last two sets of games, Portsmouth dropped out first, now Plymouth. The race for the remaining two places for the automatics is down to two from three. We still require Oxford or Accers to not win one game and then win both of ours. I still think we are suffering from the stupid timing of the U21 friendlies. It isn't in our own hands unfortunately. Red cards may still play a part in this years promotion run in.
If we win our last 2 then all we can hope is that either Oxford or Stanley lose 1. as I said earlier in this post when we had about seven games to go 1 loss and 1 draw would see us promoted automatically I still think this will be the case
I too thought we could afford 1 loss and 1 draw. But we got 0 losses and 2 draws so we are doing better than what we both thought was needed, providing we win our last 2 of course
If ever a team were gifted a win it was Dagenham today. They are truely awful. All you have to do is take a few of your chances and you will piss the game. No sour grapes from me today just saying as it is. We gave them 3 goals and didn't take enough of our loads and loads of chances. If we cave in against teams like that then frankly we don't deserve to go up so fill your boots. I cannot see us winning the last two either now so guess we are done. It does prove my point about anyone beating anyone though... Who would have thought York would put paid to Portsmouth's effort and Dagenham would do for us. You definately wouldn't have put money on it. The two relegated sides deciding the promotions. Classic.
IF we win our last two , all we need is a draw from one of the other two! Unless Accers win one game by a huge margin
