So you reckon an average of 11 goals a season is a success.
    Whats failure?
Rooney is hyped for one reason and one reason only..He's English.
Thats where the ''White Pele'' nonsense came from...more like white Bobby Zamora.
He's not progressed since he was a teenager...I'll tell you why he has believed all the hype.
Rooney overall is Dirk Kuyt with a temper...and thats insulting Dirk Kuyt.
Andy Carroll has problems off the pitch..It wasn't Andy Carroll that was having gang bangs with kerb crawlers.
Rooney is an over-rated,over-hyped,over-weight thug and until the English media realise it,they won't win an arguement let alone a major tournament.
Rooney top 10 in the world.<doh>
He's not even top 10 in the premiership.

he hasnt averaged 11 goals a season, are you good at maths? in the last 7 seasons ( yes since he was 18 ) he has scored 11 goals a season twice, and never below. learn what average means please.

secondly he adds alot more to the team than kuyt. scores more, creats more, more skilfull better range of passing, can score wonders goals ( see his first game for united ).

Rooney is united's best player, and united is arguably the best team in england, thats saying something.

okay hes not messi. hes not ronaldo.

but theres no one has good as those two yet people still use it as a stick to beat him with? the thing about rooney bar the lapse of form last season he has always performed always. yes he only scored like 16 when ronaldo was there, but that was cause ronaldo was a better goalscorer as hes arguably the best goalscorer in the world so rooney had to play for asissts. nothing wrong with that.

to consider him a failure cause he scored 11 goals a season ( twice since he was 18, meaning he's been performing since he was 18 years old, thats quite a feet ) is pathetic, and if rooney didnt pick up form at the end of the season last year i doubt man u would have got to the champs final or even win the prem league.

    you sir are a fool.

Edit: name ten players in the prem better than rooney? dont say gerrad or suarez or any liverpool player to be honest cause there not better.

i cant think of any to be honest, maybe fabregas struggling for any others.

Rooney had to play for assists..so in other words he had to run around.
So its a good idea to pay someone £250k a week to run around.
Maybe Liverpool should pay David Ngog £250k to run around..second thoughts only Baconface would do that.

Name me a season where ngog has scored more than ten goals? name a season where rooney hasnt? Ngog's most in the prem league ever was 9, which all be it could be worse

secondly name me a season ngog has had more than 5 asissts name me a season where rooney hasnt?

thirdly prove to me rooney is getting paid 250k a week.

fourthly if you think getting asissts is all about running around like a headless chicken, change sport as you clearly know nothing about football. go watch golf.

now compare most players to have played in the prem since they were 18 years old. hes been a very consitent player, both goal scoring wise and as the man to run the show from behind the strikers.

i dont personally like him, but its just foolish to say hes been a failure.

KPR no point arguing with you, you never reliase when your wrong and just result to insults of a player cause they failed in one match. your hopeless.

That stat only covers his time in a utd shirt

since the start of his career including his time with everton then the average goals per season is 13

Someone should post this across all of the board as a poll to see what a non biased view of the matter is.

My personal opinion of Rooney is that he is slightly overhyped (I called him a flash in the pan when he arrived on the scene with Everton and have been made to remember it virtually every saturday since saying it). He is good but players like Messi, Ronaldinho, Figo, Ronaldo & Kaka have always been a cut above him

thats counting it since he was 17 years old. but sure now look up any player to have been playing at prem league standerd since they were 17 and have averaged over 13 goals in 8 years. and no one's saying hes on messi or ronaldo's level, but he is top ten.

    14.5 goals a season,hardly prolific.
Dirk Kuyt who isn't by any means considered world class or prolific in 13 seasons has averaged 16.5 goals a season in his career
    215 goals in 13 seasons.

In holland, afonso alves scored 40 goals in holland and scored like 7 in the prem, why cause the league is much weaker in holland.

compare his prem stats if you like though.

    I'm comparing career stats.
Rooney averages 14.5 goals and is considered world class.
Dirk Kuyt averages 16.5 goals and is considered useless.
    I cannot understand this logic.

Actually Dirk is expected to slow down....he's past his peak.
Rooney is 4 years off his peak and is still not prolific. Why is that?...is it because in reality.......he is average?

Ill bite, every player brings something different to a team and we all know stats can be used to prove any point depending on how you but them.
    As to the original quistion
12 months ago aguero with out a shadow, today big andy gets my vote, not just because he plays for liverpool but because he fits into the team better.
Just a quick stat my mate john scored 67 goals last season in our pub league, should we pop a bid in.

    Its 16.5 goals a season not 13.5.
    Its 215 in 13 seasons.
    Rooney averages less.

We're talking just league, your including european performances and cup goals, okay lets do the same for rooney and see his goal average.

    164 goals / 9 = 18.2

which is still higher than kuyts.

thats just goals though rooney adds alot more to any team than kuyt.

and hes yet to hit his "peak" years
