It's a tough road. As a parent to two teenage girls, I know of several of their friends who are going through the same thing, and can see the strain it puts on their parents who are trying desperately to help them out of the situation. All of them wishes for a magic word, but there's not one. Thoughts (and prayers if that's OK) to you and the family.

Thanks very much for your kind thoughts Ted. I have five daughters and this is my youngest, born 2 years after I had my first vasectomy (so sort of a miracle) This situation all started just before she turned 13 in March 2014 and her physique noticeably changed from shorter and slightly chubby (she always enjoyed food). That summer she ate carefully, exercised and grew taller and slimmer and seemed to have a great summer. She returned to school for grade 8 in September very proud of herself and how she now looked, but her classmates who had previously called her fat and ugly, now said she was too pretty, tall and slim and that she must be taking drugs to make herself look that good. She quickly sank into a deep depression, retreating to a basement bedroom, refusing to attend to school. hardly eating. She continued this downhill spiral, losing more weight, hair falling out, her period stopped and by January 2015 (it took that long to get her into the health care system) she was hospitalized for 6 weeks and monitored by an eating disorder intervention team. After discharge she refused the available mental health outpatient services, and any prescribed mediation (Prozac), seemed to once again have a good summer, found the strength to pick 1500 lbs of wild blueberries by hand ($750 value) at her grandparents, but retuning to school for grade 9 last September she only lasted a week or so refusing to attend, with constant binge eating and likely purge cycles, always taking long hot showers.

Yes, it is a tremendous strain on the family, especially when her 17 yr old sister (a top student with a part-time job to help with future university costs), doesn't really seem to understand and appreciate what her younger sister is going through, and that she is really not seeking extra attention. Whilst hospitalized, the intervention team told us that one in five kids with eating disorders (usually young girls) will not make it and that it never really goes away, will always have to be controlled by her. Interesting in a recent radio interview with a 27 year old woman (living in our province, NB) who had been battling this since she was 17, just before attending university and moving away from home to Nova Scotia. She talked about having to learn to control those urges through her daily life. So really a similar existence to that of an alcoholic or drug addict, but here the drug is food, you love it, but loathe it.
My daughter and that woman could likely have a valuable discussion on this issue.

Thanks Finglas - I only hope you can relieve yourself of those tickets.

I realize our spluttering season is winding down, but still a wonderful opportunity for someone to enjoy a match and all the atmosphere as I did with you and your family. In hindsight that Charlton match was perhaps not one of the greatest, other than Charlie's fantastic goal, but it was the whole day's experience and company that made it a special day for me.

OK see you there. If there is a late taker for the tickets, just come to the Crown & Sceptre pub. The govenor Gerry will point me out. Just ask him where do you find the QPR fan from Dublin.

I'm so sorry to hear your sad story about your daughter Kilburn. I find it quite remarkable that you have the courage to share it on this forum. I don't think I possess the correct words that can offer any comfort at this difficult time. But I and everyone else on here, who may find this a difficult subject to comment on would like to wish you, your daughter and your family the very best for the future and hopefully this awful situation can be overcome. All the best mate.

Fin, I have a friend who is a huge QPR fan. He has a son who is 14 and often goes to games, I think you've met him before. His name is Steve and was at the Wigan game in the Conny beforehand when Brixton was there. I'll try and contact him tomorrow to see if he can make it and take you up on your offer. I know he has childcare issues, so he might not be able to but I'll give it a go. I'll let you know asap tomorrow.

That's ok Fin, I'm glad you've found someone who will put the tickets to good use. My friend's lad wouldn't go without his dad alongside him so we'll have to leave it there. Thanks for your generosity and I'll hopefully bump into you tomorrow.

My thoughts to you and your family Kilburn. This seems to stem from a bullying issue at school, that has tapped into her physical urge/desire for control...and the only thing she thinks she can control is her own body... My daughters both got bullied at school...and one got into such a state that she began to self-harm and meddled in drugs for a while.......................scary, scary times when I found out and I felt we were helpless.
We hang on in there though it took over 6 years...We offered no real criticism but lots of help and reassurance....and she came through the other side, and now I could not be prouder of her in every little way.

The only suggestions I can make...is maybe sort out the school issues...and you two hang on in there.
Just support and offer encouragement in every little way... She is obviously very talented (as shown from your avatar), promote that as showing her how good she is...and with love you will pull through

    Thinking of you all
    Beth

Just to add that the two lads who used the season tickets were both really decent blokes. They were very appreciative to get the free tickets and they both sent me nice messages to say thanks. Glad they were used now.
