http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-36105272 I know it is not a football topic but all our "macho" colleagues need to be more aware of the dangers,
I had mine checked a couple of years ago by an older lady GP. I felt a little embarrassed for a few seconds but better that and knowing everything is OK than burying your head in the sand and eventually being in the position that banksy and his family are now in. I wouldn't hesitate - any concerns, just get it checked out.
had a scare a few years ago- where I used to take a piss every 4 pints, I found myself having having 4 for every pint, after all the scans, mri"s etc, ended having the op-totally painless but scared the life out of me,but going to that doctor was the best thing I ever did, so any symptoms lads, don't be stupid see the doc fast.
Sorry Banksy, I didn't post it to open existing wounds and my best thoughts for your family. I posted it because so many of men are, as the article states, not aware of what the prostate is let along the pain and suffering it can cause. So any and every way that we can make our fellow men aware, we should take. Guys, you need to chat to the other men in the toilet just like the girls do about all their problems. It might extend your life.
It's ok Cidered I didn't take it as that, just wanted to let people know that there are real People out there affected by it, I have to admit I have buried my head in the sand regarding this and reading wings post has alerted me a little. You would think I would know better given the circumstances!
I've been checked since I was about 30, I have nearly all the symptom's barring running to the toilet. But I've had a bad stomach due to being coeliac (mild only really affected by some things) which weakened my stomach muscles so can't push to get a stream going etc. But as others say it's important and only a few seconds of discomfort, and wouldn't think it only happens to older men. If you're unsure get it checked.
My dad was diagnosed with this about 10 years ago and beat it. He had no symptoms and it came up in a routine blood test he had. I had the same test done last year and it came back negative.
My father in law was diagnosed through a blood test a couple of months ago, had his prostate injected with radioactive beads. Didn't have any symptoms before that, they caught it quite early and say he'll be ok.
I'm only 23 so not something I even think about, in fact cancer itself is something I try to avoid talking about as it seems you don't go a day without hearing about it now. I understand it can happen to anyone but I think the "procedure" to having it checked is a little daunting and puts most... well nearly all men off. Something I'll have done later on in life for sure...
'I think the "procedure" to having it checked is a little daunting and puts most... well nearly all men off'. If you're referring to the finger up your .......... then my GP reckons that test doesn't prove much at all. I've been asking him for years and finally my new GP, reluctantly, agreed a blood test. Thankfully it returned negative. Good Article Cidered.
That is what im referring to yes. Obviously a blood test would be more accurate but these guys and girls are trained to know what a prostate is suppose to feel/look like so when they do examine you and feel something irregular im sure the blood test is done next to get a better understanding. If you're going to have a finger up there the only thing that will get rid of all the tension and embarrassment is the Doc saying "yep everything is fine" Still, I don't think I have to worry about this until im 50 is it? so I won't sweat about it for a while...
At your age Shiny, testicular cancer is much more likely . The prostate problems normally affect over 50's. So a manual inspection of the crown jewels now and again is needed for now.
Since my earlier post I've met with an acquaintance who was diagnosed with grade 2 prostate cancer 3 months ago. He had no obvious problems, but a friend of his with the same condition, allied to his age (mid 60's), suggested he should be checked out. After a blood test, it was found he has mildly aggressive prostate cancer. He is shortly having an operation and then radio-therapy. The prognosis is good. Just goes to show...
