This. United have the same problem as Arsenal. Anything you do, or anyone you sign is irrelevant whilst the current managers are in charge, because they lack even a smidgen of a clue, that it would render any possible actions meaningless. I can see Arsenal keeping Wenger next year, but United would be ****ing mad to keep LvG!! Surely you won't?
No supporter wants to see their club perform badly, but I'm sure there are good number of fans out there who are torn between success in the FA Cup (and somehow scrambling into 4th spot) if it came at the cost of keeping LvG as opposed to missing out on any honours and guaranteeing his departure. Personally, I am at the point where I am desperate for him to go and would sadly take a zero season if that is what it takes to remove him.
I have a horrible feeling that the manager who stays will be determined by who gets 4th spot. 4th place, the CL money and a couple of FA Cups is pretty much all that has kept Wenger in place for the past decade, and ultimately if we finish fourth our board may decide that the risk of a new manager is not worth taking. After all, Mourinho's presence has contributed a great deal to Chelsea having no European football next season, and our board appears just as cautious as the Arsenal one when it comes to keeping fourth spot ahead of taking any risks to challenge for trophies. I think if LVG does manage to scrape 4th and win the FA Cup (maybe not even needing to win the cup), he may well still be here next year, as the board will look at the money first and foremost.
The problem is there are no guarantees they'd get rid of him even then so we're as well aspiring to get the very best out of the season and then see what happens.
Agreed, but if that is the case then this is why I've been arguing all season that the players we have are pretty bloody good and I lay little fault (if any) at them. Schneiderlin is a typical example. Great player, great purchase but it's clear as day watching him that his natural game is being stifled by the rigid system & territory LVG imposes on him.
Manchester United need a manager who can create team play no matter who the players are . Great players don't make a team great ...managers do . Whoever United get in this time as a manager, it better be someone who lasts so the players feel a bit of stability . I actually thought LVG was the guy .
I do ...I think , if left alone , he might bring them the title as the young guns start to gel better . One things for sure , a circus style " Manager go - round " isn't the way forward .
If Mourinho comes in and learns from his past mistakes, especially those made over the past year, then things should stabilize. But as we know, staying loyal to a manager does not necessarily bring success. Liverpool is perfect example of that. Then there's Arsenal who have become perennial bottlers. I think change of manager is a good thing when done right. If LvG goes after this season, that would be the right way to change a manager instead of sacking them mid way through the season. He's had two years and he surely can't complain he wasn't given enough support.
