I was shouting at the wife, he can support WBA like your family if he really wants but he'll only support that ****ing club if I'm dead in the ground!

No he wasn't. I have a picture of my daughter in an Everton shirt from when she was three year old (supplied by her bastard uncle when he and my sister baby-sat her when we went on holiday). I also have a picture of myself in a Leeds hat and scarf back in 1970 when they played you in the final (I went to the replay at Old Toilet).

It makes a great myth though.

    You are being sarcastic, yes?

Owen just wanted to win the league title to add to his cv. And he couldn't see how he could do that with any certainty apart going to our fiercest rivals. Never mind how the fans felt. And he got his wish and the pictures on the manc board showed his glee at winning the title with them.

Now the club appoint him without any regards of how the fans think. This is something the club should be ashamed of.

You should have threatened to drown his hamster, as I did with my daughter re the Everton shirt (see above). You have to be cruel to be kind sometimes as a parent.

Lots of legends supported Everton. If I'm not mistaken, Jamie carragher, fowler, Owen as well as Gerrard supported them as kids. Does not mean much.

In both instances, when he left Madrid and when he left Newcastle, we had first option on him. Why is he supposed to not celebrate winning the league in a team that employs him? Is Macca supposed to not be happy that he won the CL with Madrid? had City won anything when he was there, would Fowler been not expected to celebrate it? was Emlyn Hughes not supposed to celebrate winning the League Cup with Wolves when he left us?

Just don't understand this childish hatred of Owen when he ended up at Uniturd as opposed to left us or turned us down to go there. he didn't.

    Get over it.

No he ****ing didn't. He went to great lengths to explain that in his book, not as an apology but as a statement of fact.

There was one of Ryan Giggs wearing a City shirt at that age doing the rounds some years back. Wish I'd saved it.

Strange appointment as I think there are better choices out there - but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that he is a popular figure around the globe. He should have been England's best ever striker IMO until injuries ruined him.

Won't ever blame him for going to united because he is a professional who wants to win things and support his family.

The only gripe I have with him is how he left LFC. And that's why he won't ever be considered a Liverpool legend.

Post the picture of him with the PL trophy that's on your board, can't bring myself to do it. Those who think it's ok that he went to Utd or that it's ok that he's representing our club may have a change of heart.

There must lots of ex LFC players who could fulfill that role. It's not as if he is short of a bob or two.

And the manner of his leaving was more consistent of him wanting a better pay day rather than the love and regard of the club. The picture of him in a United shirt lifting the premiership must surely make not just me nauseous.

Win things yeah (not that that makes you a better player), but support his family?
No offence to you Jimmy, but this is something that thoroughly pisses me off about modern footballers. How much money does anyone need to support their family?
If you're earning say, £3M a year do you need to go to a rival for £3.5M or else you'll be destitute?
Nobody needs that amount of money, it's either greed or an ego thing - wanting to be seen as worth more than others- and has nothing to do with any nobler considerations like supporting others.

Tbh, all that stuff about Owen leaving is water under the bridge for me - I can't bear a grudge that long. I just hate having to listen to the tedious bugger when I'm trying to watch a game, so if this gets him off the telly a bit I'm all for it.

yes all he cared about was england.
capello binned him there as well as at real.

He was on 40 goals but if he'd tried a leg in his club career he might have been fit enough to play for england and get lineker's record but rooney has done well enough to get that

as for the bollox about support his family <laugh> jesus wept lad thats utterly niaive of you.

How many race horses did he own prior to moving there.

Fowler in the yea 2000 owned how many houses... thye don't need to move to ****ty manc land to earn a crust or end up in poor house.
