We have plenty of strikers. Ferguson and Marveaux can play left back, the Taylors can play right back. It's quality we need to improve, same with right side of midfield. Johnson would do this.

Took the words right out of my mouth <applause>. He's one of my favourite non Newcastle players to watch and would love to see him here.

We have only 2 good strikers and 4 or 5 good wingers, why shouldnt we get a striker in first? And waste a golden opportunity to give Ferguson games?

Ferguson's too lightweight to be a LB and Marveaux would be wasted there as well, we're in a lot of trouble if Enrique goes and we only have Kadar or a winger to play there.

A striker should be the priority but if Johnson is available on loan then why not try and get him too?

Nobody has said we should get him and not bother with a striker

Not necessary, its like if a really good CM or GK was available it would still be pointless because we have enough quality there. Plus with loan fees and his no doubt huge wages we might not even "have enough left" to get a striker in.

Overrated. Selfish player and we could have Ben Arfa playing that role coming in from the right and cutting in, would rather money was spent elsewhere and better

Why label players with one position? Barton, Ben Arfa, Marveaux and Jonas can all play effectively on the right hand side.

tbf, we don't even know how good Marveaux will be yet, and i don't want to see Joey out on the right, so i think if the chance came to take him on loan then i would love us to get him.

Johnson's left footed but because he has played on the right he is a right winger? Barton has played on the right, so by your logic he is a right winger as well. The fact is we're going to use him there this season.

EDIT: that was a reply to Mrtiote

I think players have positions they are best in. Sven started all this ****e playing square pegs in round holes and I don't rate it. Peace though everyone has their own opinions I guess mate.

True but some pegs fit a lot of holes. IMO Barton is an example, just as effective out wide.

It's a squad game, we have cover. Bringing in Johnson would also mean we have more players frustrated they arent in the side.

Agree to disagree, though I guess.

Johnson would be a brilliant permanent replacement for Barton when he leaves next year if we could pull it off.
