Only rugby fans and sports writers refer to the city of Kingston Upon Hull as a town. Can't bring myself to do so.

That's the wrong way around. He said Hull FC claim they get lower crowds than they do, whereas this article states Man Utd - like most other clubs - claim they have higher attendances than they actually do cos they count sold tickets as attending.

 

Hull FC used to announce tickets sold not actual attendance, so if anything the announced numbers were bigger than the actual crowd I don't know what bollocks Castro is moaning on about but that's a fact confirmed by someone that works at the club. Coincidently Hull City did the same.

Clubs are able to announce the number of tickets sold to a game as their attendance, they need to know this number to organise matchday staff and often do so to make their attendance look better. The police take a count of the number of people going through the turnstiles, they don't care how many tickets are sold, they just need to know how many people are physically in the stadium for health and safety reasons.

 

This why I love this forum, I go to the second page of the thread to read it and there's nothing about Pulis at all just some egg-chaser talk

 

When you got on a bus into the centre of Hull you didn't say "town please" when asking for a ticket?

 

Im not arguing about what any club does or doesnt do, my point was he said Hull FC fans claim they have bigger attendances than what they announce and then you posted mocking this claim and included a link about clubs having smaller attendances than what they announce.

 

If I was in the centre of Hull where is this town I would be asking to go to?

I didn't say FC claimed that. I said their fans did. You could regularly read post in the HDM and on their forum where fans claimed they didn't believe the figures and there were more there. Probably because they couldn't deal with getting smaller crowds than the football team they share a stadium with in this "rugby town" even when they were in the top flight and City were in the bottom one.

 

Yes, misread that. Have never asked for a ticket into town. Just said bus station or wherever I wanted to get off.

I think everyone does, not just in Hull. I've lived in Leeds for years and the centre is always referred to as town.
