My posts are all my opinion aren't they? So me posting she isn't funny is indeed my opinion. It's a bit like people saying she's funny or how they thought a joke was superb. I haven't seen you say the same to them...

FWIW Beefy, I found her incredibly unfunny as well. If I ever raised a smile due to her humour, I'm not aware of it. But, like plenty of other people, I exclaimed, aww, that's a shame, and meant it when I heard she'd died. Brought pleasure to many. Just not to me. An obviously talented lady.

Now Sandi Toksvig can make me fall off my chair with laughter. Unfunny to some, no doubt. Anyway, not a time for comparisons. Just a case of each to their own.

Strange what we find funny, or not.

I found most of her stuff ok to bland in a light entertainment sort of way, not really my thing. However Acorn Antiques is an absolute classic for me, maybe funnier because Crossroads was still a fresh memory at the time. Gentle smile humour rather than guffaw.

Victoria Wood pushed against much of the male establishment in tv and comedy circles during the 80s, deserves credit for that.

Ahh ok that makes sense then, i thought it was a noise problem rather than a judder. The problem with main dealers now days is that most of the old school mechanics have long retired and there's a whole new breed who are more electrician/computer based than mechanically based. There is a fit a new part and hope that cures it mentallity rather than spending a bit of time fixing the problem first time.

Thanks Kitch. The highlighted line is spot on. The mechanic up the road will be getting my work from now.

Humour can be found in recognising a truth....as in the observational humour of Michael McIntyre. It's the reason The Office was funny....anyone who has ever worked in an office situation would recognise the exaggerated characters. So, although she crossed barriers to some extent, Victoria Wood's audience would mainly be women and the middle aged.

That's true I think she did appeal more to women because of some of the things she spoke about which we could all relate too. Mr WS always cracks up at this sketch with Julie Walters though.

They're neither of the first two in many British prisons. And the foods awful too.

Ched Evans' rape conviction has been overturned and he will have a retrial.

Expected this, as I expect the rape conviction to be quashed. It in no way changes the absolute disgust I feel for the man.

My opinion of him is based on his own statements and behaviour in before, during and after his trial. It is not based on a criminal conviction, or not.

First time I ever heard Victoria Wood (1978, Radio Hallam interview at 11:30pm - before she'd made it) she sang this, which has one of my favourite first lines of all time.

    Vin

PS: Ref funny/not funny, I don't find Alan Carr funny in any way shape or form. However, objectively, he is, because millions of people rate him as such, so I accept that I'm the one out of line. Ditto opinions on Victoria Wood.

To be fair, you could probably find that millions of people do not rate him as such, so you may not be in the minority. You and I are 2 who do not, for a start.

I've shaken the piggy bank as hard as I could and managed to just squeeze out enough for 4 tyres (yes I needed the full set <wah>) and tracking. Cost more than next year's season ticket ......... that's decided that for me then ...... :emoticon-0101-sadsm
