No. But it doesn't really negatively impact the players that much as most players will tell you.
The corollary is that cheering/encouraging the players can have a significant positive impact, as most players will tell you.
Have you ever played the game ?

So hang on. Negative emotion from the stands has zero effect. Cheering has a massive effect. That makes absolutely no sense.

Yes I have and yes I do. I guarantee if I have someone yelling "You're ****ing ****!" at me from the sideline it's going to affect me.

And as I've said a few times now, Robertson was clearly quite annoyed by it to. So saying the players aren't affected by negative emotion, but are affected by positive emotion is a bit silly.

It may affect 6 year olds, but not pros. It probably inspires them to think about their game & correct their mistakes. Silence of the home crowd may tell players something isn't working. Positive vibes (cheering, clapping etc etc) does work. Booing I would never condone, but at the pro level the players mostly tune it out.
I suggest if you hear such scathing verbals directed at you, turn it into positive feedback & attempt to analyse why it may be happening and adjust something in your performance. If you are secure in what you are doing on the field, dismiss it completely.
Should I ever get to hear said Robertson interview I'll make my own judgement.

Ok mate. Cheering has an affect, booing has no affect. If you say so. Robertson is clearly wrong.

If someone can find the interview it would be appreciated.

The world's full of shades of grey & subtleties. Try thinking about it sometime. Maybe your interpretation of Robertson's response is not quite so clear cut. Wonder what Swanny's response to the same question would have been ?

I have no issue with it being grey. You're the one saying booing doesn't affect players. That cheering does affect players. I'm suggesting that in both situations other effects can be felt.

I'm surprised you missed it at the time, as a lot were discussing the fact Robertson wasn't happy with the supporters reactions.

Listen, I'm sure he wasn't. According to you he answered some question by explaining why the team constantly passed the ball sideways, which from what you have said repeatedly was his reaction to the booing. He outwardly, it appears, was directing his wrath at the supporters. Supporters have been crowing about this (as TigerRoo may say) crab-oriented tactic for months. Why, we may ask ? Lack of mobility, awareness on behalf of the attacking players ? Inability of the team to "break through" the oppositions defensive formations ? Or lack of tactical instruction by Bruce or inability of his players to follow tactical plans ? All of these potential variables may be behind Robertson's frustration and his reaction to the crowd's frustrations. There may be more factors. On a longish dip in form and set of poor results, anyone being interviewed will naturally be on the defensive. Look at Bruce recently.
Most players don't like booing supporters, or abusive comments from opposition players. But they get on with it despite it. Many will be motivated to prove the nay-sayers wrong.
All I'm suggesting is that there is likely more behind Robertson's response other than simple anger towards booing supporters.
Using your style of debate, is that so difficult for you to understand ?

I have no doubt he wasn't just taking issue with the supporters, but as you started this bizarre conversation by suggesting players are never affected by booing (before ironically having a crack at me about failing to accept that things aren't black and white) I pointed out evidence of a player who wasn't happy with the booing. I have no doubt he has other issues with the tactics and set up, but that's irrelevant to the point we were discussing.

Stop, please stop. This is one opinion versus another. It won't be resolved by adding another 6 pages of argument. You both have a difference of opinion, each valid - move on.

Yes but only if you have an extra set of goals on the halfway line. Bruce may be a nice guy but he's been clueless since the turn of the year in 2014. He ought to be long gone, we ought not to have been relegated, we ought to be already promoted and I suspect we will bott ... after 55 years, ah **** it, I enjoyed 65-66 (was that the season)? I'll live on past glories and a Hull City football club with which I can identify (though it has been mostly a struggle). Really, when you think about it, these days, is it worth enduring (for the most part) the locally uninvested owners, the mercenary players and the abominably stupid UK players who earn more in a couple of years than most of us will in a lifetime, while supporters are relieved of large amounts of money to attend.

That said, I can't help it I'll always follow City but by god, I'd like a divorce and a clean slate but naturally that won't happen ... Stop in the Name of Love ... You Keep me Hanging On ... and, of course, "I'll Always Love You."

Now get promoted and prove me wrong, arseholes.

    Well said tinc.
I'd post all your quoted songs, but I'll stick to the last one, for a couple of reasons:

So why do they pass the ball sideways?
The only other option isn't to lob through balls to Hernandez.
I don't think it's a question of being confused I think it's not being told why they do pass the ball sideways.
Why not run forward with the ball or pass forwards? I realise they are not always options but other teams seem to do it more than we do.

I think Robertson was basically trying to make the point that keeping hold of the ball, regardless of what they do with it, is better than lobbing it forward. It would be good if someone could track the interview down.

It also allows the opponents to keep position, not be drawn out and ensure City don't have any opportunities to exploit.

Against Reading City were trying to run with the ball through the defence and do short interpassing. Mostly it didn't come off but if it did we would have been in a very good position. Interesting that the goals came from a lob to Hernandez and a run and a shot from outside the box from Robertson. There's never going to be one way to break down a defence. You need intelligent footballers who know when it's best to dribble, best for short pass, best for a long pass, best to cross and best to lob the ball up to Hernandez - oh, and when best to pass sideways. When we had Jelavic and Long they knew how to work together. If the players constantly moved it would make it harder for opponents. Even at throwins players don't seem to try to create space. The thrower is lucky if there's two players to pass to and the opponents know who they are as well and this puts pressure on them as soon as the throw is taken.

Different players are affected by different things and ignore different things.

Ok. I'm really not trying to argue the point about what style the players should play or whether they're playing the right style. The point made was the players aren't bothered by booing as pros so I cited an example of Robertson being quite edgy about the fans dissatisfaction after one game.
