They aren't the same sort of players though and people are just quick to compare them because of the Croatia link.

On it goes, I was always impressed with Vidic when we played Man U. oh and Rooney would be a useful addition, no doubt Rio would like a return to London.

Have you been to Manchester? No wonder Tevez wants out. For a major city it is very provincial with little history, it's town hall is a highlight. Hmmm! The onyl reason to go to Manchester is on your way to Scotland. You might get a coffee.......if you're lucky.

Maybe so but the fact remains that we coped pretty well without him. All these people, harry included, who say the sale of Modric would mark the end of our top 4 aspirations clearly have very short memories. Modric might make us tick but at ever such a slow pace and if his heart is no longer in it, get rid for the highest price achievable. I fear he is the major logjam in our efforts to strengthen the squad. The other usual suspects (Keane, jenas, etc) will need to be kicked out as it doesn't look like anyone wants them

King Hotspur.....I have a funny feeling they don't compare them just because of their nationality.
I have been on the side of 'do anything we can to keep hold of Modders'. I am starting to lean towards the 'get him out' crew. For a club like ours we should not be all on here writing how shocking our pre-season games have been. How lackluster our players have looked. How the passing is off and the players don't look like they even want to be there. I have read a lot of the match reports on here (I have not got home form work in time to stream them) and I start getting slowly more annoyed each report. We should not be losing to teams in SA, just purely as we have the facilities and the players that should be going over there and knocking goals in for fun. That was our problem last season and it seems to be continuing.
If the whole Modric wanting to leave is causing an issue in the dressing room, then let him go. We have to start this new season with a bang. Niko is more than capable of filling Modrics shoes and with the goal he scored against MK Dons, he looks like he's up for it too. I read the report on the Spurs home page that said Niko created 4 of the 5 goals we scored that night. A creative midfielder replacement right there.

I am saying that if Modric is causing dressing room issues, he is not worth getting in the way of our challenge for the top 4.

It's pointless trying to hang on to an unhappy player. Sooner, or later, it will start to show in his performances, no matter how professional he is. Our best chance of keeping him, would seem to be the hope that the Chavs will find somebody else, and drop their pursuit.
He only seems to be interested in joining The Chavs, at the moment - probably for personal reasons. If that avenue becomes closed, he may settle down. Provided, of course that we can show some ambition by bringing in some quality reinforcements.

I'm not saying keep Modric if he wants to leave but if we sell him and use Kranjcar as the replacement then I think we will struggle.

I have to disagree with you there.

Kranjcar and Modric are certainly different players, but I don't think that Kranjcar's style of play is unsuitable for us.

In fact, I'm gonna come out and say it, imo Kranjcar's attacking play suits us better than Modric's possessive/progressive play.

I'm not knocking Kranjcar (I actually rate him) but if we sell Modric (if he really wants to leave, then he has to go, it's that simple) then we need to sign a midfield playmaker with real class and to me as good as Kranjcar is, he isn't that sort of player and definately not as good as Modric.

I like Kranjcar, Ensil. I think we should definitely hang on to him, if we can keep him happy. As a direct replacement for Modric, I just don't see it. For one thing, I don't think he's got the legs to do the amount of work that Modric gets through in a game. Kranjcar wants to play - I can understand that, so we may well lose him.

    100% agree.

Niko is good back up for Bale on the left and in my opinion offers more than Pienaar but not for the middle of the park.

Jenas, Bentley, Keane, Hutton are the 4 I really want to see moved on.

Krancjar should get more game time this season but I thought he wants to be 1st choice rather than just playing in less important games and that was why it was likely he would leave.

I think Chelsea should continue to keep putting in offers right up to the off, which will leave the lad very bitter with spurs for the start of the new season.

I think you've already done a good enough job of tapping him up, and unsettling him. Levy is obviously pretty pissed off with the way this whole thing has been conducted. IMO, your only chance of getting him would be a silly bid, £50mm+

I hope Darth Levy keeps to his word and refuses to sell Modric, we can still be a very good team without the money or with Modric sat in the stands.

The PL is by far the most important competition we're in next season.

    I'd take 4th over winning a cup.

Unless your name is Abramovich, in which case you can add another nought.

So Paul Scholes speaking about Modric (comment #24 on this thread) is fine but we aren't allowed to talk any more on the subject?
