If only we had managed to do a deal for Liverpool bound Matip. Now he IS a special player.

I don't want to sound over the top, but he might, be the best centre back ever.

    Way to play it down!

I thoroughly enjoy listening to his interviews and although he has a blip here and there (the pass straight to Bruyne) he really has improved his performances over the last few months. If he kept going at this rate, he would be in the england squad for the World Cup qualifiers.

Everyone has improved tho, noticably Tiote last night, he really rolled the clock back and gave the type of performance that got him linked with arseanl a few years ago. Even Dummett defended well, usually struggles against a pacey winger but timed everything superbly.

Madness for me and would show we are refusing to learn from our quite blatant errors. A few games at the end of a season in desperation should not be clouding peoples judgement. I guarantee it won't fool someone of Rafa's experience. These two lads have the ability to feature at this level. However they need guidance and experience alongside them, not sitting on the bench. There are enough games and enough fluctuation in young centre halfs play to keep everyone happy.

We definitely need two. One needs to be a commanding first choice centre back to lead the defence for the next 5 years. The other just needs to be young really. You have the likes of Jake Cooper at Reading, Maguire at Hull, Keane at Burnley, Dunk at Brighton - none of these types are spectacular but as part of a 4 man unit they could provide cover and develop. Its all very well talking about them though, most will be passing us as they get promoted and we go the other way <laugh>

The lad could be a good captain for years to come.
