Isn't it just, can't believe some of the ideas on this thread,(fitter refs might help)but if any of most of those ideas are introduced it would ruin the spectacle.
Also their introduction would increase attendances at lower league level.IMO.

Refs need help. To take somethings away from them and make it go to a panel will lighten the load.

To make the rules harsher and to take some of abuse the refs get away is a good thing. People can't abuse some one on a panel, when no one would know who is on it.

As you say if the punishment is strong players will adapt their behaviour. 10yds for dissent isn't enough.

Judging by the comments, I actually got the impression that had the players known that the ref was miked up, they may have moderated their language, and possibly their behaviour.
I also enjoyed Elleray's no nonsense "Go away" to players that tried interfere with what he was doing.
Adams should have been off, for calling him a cheat.

If I remember rightly I think he said that was "selectively" edited to give a particularly bad impression. People shout and swear, I'm not sure it's a big deal.

Well i'm pleased they're punishing Vardy and have done similar this season with Costa & Gabriel. So it's a step in the right direction.

Qwerty posted on another thread about how the video tech experiment for next season would be implemented. I believe it can be achieved without a big impact on the flow of the game and with video evidence at their disposal, the temptation for a player to dive will reduce.

Blimey. For most women it only takes 9 months and 2 minutes to have a baby.

It didn't really have any detail at all about how it would work. That's the problem. I can wave my hands in the air and say "we need technology" but the detail cracks it every time.

I understand that it's going to be used in Serie A next season and the FA Cup

There's little point in suggesting how technology would be implemented as the FA may go an entirely different way. Besides, what is possible, reliable and affordable and what people believe is possible, reliable and affordable can be two entirely different things.

For example, GPS. That's no good for offside as it's only accurate down to 6 feet or worse. However, if there was a system of localised satellites within line of sight in the stands one could possibly get it down better. That might be possible for offside, but I'm not convinced just yet. Perhaps transponders in the shoulders of the shirts, and sewn into the sides of the shorts. As yet, computer coordinated video cameras would be possible and most reliable. But if I could give you the details of how it would be implemented I wouldn't be wasting my time explaining it on here. I'd be making some money.

The same method as Hawk-eye seems like the only 100% method, but it's a lot more complicated than a goal line which isn't moving very far. 10 years before we get anywhere on that one.

I will happily agree with that one.

I think one of the laws of football is that all refs have to marry other refs. It's probably because we have to share a changing room.

Actually, where's Pompey Lapras, I've thought of a new career for him.

If one put transponders into the players' kit, and this was picked up by sensors then one could have a video camera running the line on rails. There could be two, one for each half of the ptich, in the same way as there are two linesmen. They could keep in perfect alignment with the last player. A transponder in the ball would tell when it has been kicked forward appropriately. A computer should be able to work out pretty much instantly if a player was offside or not, with 100% reliability. There you go, a workable system. Needs testing!

Someone else can come up with the detail. I'm off to make some money on the idea. ;)

I guess you're trying to think of an instant solution to offside, but it's pretty easy to review on the replays

Ah, but was he interfering? What if the ball goes up the other end? Then we're into the same rabbit holes as every other decision.

Indeed it is, and it has been 'instant replay' since the late 1960's. All they have to do is use it. That's another workable system. Slower than a dedicated system though.

Whereas I feel it's a very short time. Looking at any incident from three angles maybe more than once at a slow speed and you're going to be out of time. If play's still progressing, a great deal could have happened in that time.

A few years ago, Saints had a corner and Man City broke away about four on two. At that point, any Saints manager worth his salt would have been hitting his "challenge" button so hard it would have broken. When asked, it would have been for... well... you know... the... er... push at the corner. (Man City scored, so it would have been an awful abuse).

And I think 30 seconds could never be enough. Plenty of decisions become clear on the third camera angle.
