Reported in the WDP today Lockyer, Brown, Gaffney and Sinclair are all under contract beyond the end of this season, Lawrence will be handed a new deal as a result of a clause in his contract when signed from Shrewsbury. All the rest of the players will be offered new contracts if back to back promotions are achieved
Here is the story Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has revealed that all of his out-of-contract players will be offered new deals at the club if they secure promotion to League One. Tom Lockyer and Lee Brown joined Stuart Sinclair and Rory Gaffney as the only players contracted beyond the end of the season after signing new deals last week. Liam Lawrence will also be handed a new deal as a result of a clause in the contract he signed when joining from Shrewsbury in January, and Clarke has revealed that the rest of his players will also be made offers if they manage to achieve what would be back-to-back promotions. Clarke said: "I'm in my fifth season as a manager and the group of players I have now is the best I have had by far. Everybody is at it in training and is itching to play. It is not easy to pick a team at the moment and it is even harder when I have to tell two or three of the players that they have to sit in the stands. If we get promoted every one of the players will get an offer to stay. That was the incentive I dangled in front of them at the turn of the year and that is where I stand. They have already matched my expectations of a top seven finish this season and to do that was easier said than done. When you have a group of players like we have at the moment you have to try to keep them. We're pleased to get Lee Brown and Tom Lockyer signed because they are players we certainly don't want to lose now. There are clubs around interested in poaching our better players but gone are the days when this club rolls over and has its belly tickled." I love the bit underlined in red!
Thanks for putting that on CJS, I am not computer minded so I can't transfer whole sections of articles from other sources onto this or any other site, and like you I am impressed with the bit in red
I know exactly how you feel! --- Haven't a clue what I'm doing with this laptop half the time!! So thankful that others on this forum know their way around today's technology.
Everybody in the squad has worked hard and done their bit most of the so its only fair that they get the chance of a contract renewal I will hold my hand up and admit that I got it wrong about a few of the players their a great bunch and IMO the best squad of players we've had since the days of Gerry Francis.
If the rumours are true about Taylor DC isn't going to rock the boat by omitting him so I reckon we will have to wait and see. It will be interesting to see who isn't offered a contract if we don't get promoted
