My issue with Meyler is his consistency. When he's on form you know you're going to get a good performance from him, he'll bang in a few goals and make a nuisance of himself. When he's not on form, he's ****ing useless. Regardless of the stats that suggest we win more games with him in the team, if he isn't worth the shirt he's putting on then he shouldn't be in the team. I mean Odubajo has played in most of those games, does that mean we don't win when he isn't in the side? The admiration for him running around and tackling a lot is ridiculous, it's what all good midfielders do anyway (well, except ours). I watched Meyler give the ball away 8 or 9 times on Friday (which for a professional footballer at this level is poor) and he doesn't look anything like the player he was before Christmas. I really wish we hadn't given him a new deal because I think we need somebody like him, but somebody who is better at football than he is.
No, but saying just having him in the team makes us win is ridiculous. There are loads of different factors which contribute to a win, not just which player plays.
anyway, who cares any more? we blew promotion while he was resting. blew it to bits. not a chance in the play-offs. season over. fingers crossed the cancer and dead wood leaves over the summer break.
They suggest he has an influence on games, which he does when he's on form. When he's out of form, he's ****. Hence why he hasn't been in the team.
so what you're saying is if a player is on the winning side in only 18 out of 25 games he should be dropped and even if the team only wins 3 of the 16 games he misses, he should only be brought back when he's on form? my apologies to those who've told me i know nothing about football! they were right, i clearly don't. the last time we lost a league game that he played in was december 28th against preston. are you saying that's why he's not been in the team? didn't we win all six games in january? damn, i really need to understand this game better, or find another one to follow.
No, because during that spell he played really well, there wasn't a problem. The last few times he's played for us he hasn't been anywhere near as effective and has been rightly dropped. Its obvious, he made a gaffe and was dropped as a result. He came back in, was ok, then he went back to being useless again so he was once again dropped.
Most of us have known than Livermore and hudd as the midfield two doesn't work this season and the stats bear that out. Livermore has mostly been undroppable, and we mainly win when meyler plays. So it should be a fairly logical conclusion to play them together. Why Bruce keeps messing about with the midfield two I've no idea. We've got five meaningless games left to try and work out his favoured eleven but what's the betting when the playoffs come round Bruce has still got no idea what his starting line up should be.
