Cheers. I won't go on the pills yet, as I don't want to be stuck on them. I am managing it out with diet. I only suffer when I have a period of non-stop high purine foods.

At least 77 dead and 500 injured after a powerful earthquake struck Ecuador. :(

Very sad. My wife and I were checking out the recent quakes in Japan... our son goes there on a school trip in June.

Japan has the safest buildings in the world when it comes to earthquakes and they have regular drills in schools on what to do if an earthquake happens. It would have to take a massive and shallow quake for anything massively dangerous to happen. I did my degree on this sort of stuff. I would love to visit Japan someday. Japan is in the most tectonically active area in the world so it is almost inevitable that there will be an earthquake while your son is there (58 in the last 7 days). The vast majority are harmless and can barely be felt however.

Yeah, but don't panic apart from the one the other day, they were all under 5.0 on the Richter scale. And if you compare the casualties in Japan with the 7.3 quake and Ecuador with the 7.8 quake (3 dead compared to over 70) you can see that Japan is well prepared. The time I wouldn't want an earthquake to happen is at night. You've just got to ensure that your son understands that earthquakes are dangerous if you don't take the right actions or do something stupid like film it on your phone (not that I think he would do that, from the few times I've met him he comes across as sensible). Here's a link that may have some useful info. You may have read it already I'm sure you've done some research but it doesn't hurt to get some more info.

We're lucky to live in a part of the world, where earthquakes cause little damage.
Over the years I have spent a lot of time on the Costa Blanca, and have experienced 3 or 4 tremors, that pass as earthquakes.
Although only minor, the noise that accompanied them is something else.
I can't imagine the fear of being caught up in an earthquake of the magnitude witnessed in Japan and Ecuador. Truly frightening.

    Footnote.
Every year, between 1,200 and 1,400 tremors are recorded in the Iberian peninsula. Usually they measure no more than 4.9 on the Richter scale, while one registering 5.0 or above occurs once every three and a half years or so.

I'll bet. Tbh, the era of gawping at wild animals through a fence is long over. We should be doing everything we can to preserve their habitats and stop encroaching on what's left.
