The Leicester City "spiral" watch!

Discussion in 'The Premier League' started by Hoddle is a god, Jan 17, 2016.

  1. True, but they won't be able to get in the quality of players to play expansive, attractive football. It will be the counter-attacking, park-the-bus-then-chip-and-rush style that Leicester has employed so successfully, so far, this season. The thing is, the better teams will soon work out how to counteract that style, then teams like Leicester will be fcuked big time. Look what happened to Wimbledon!

It will be great for Leicester if they get a CL spot, which looks highly likely at the moment. They'll have a good amount of money to spend in the summer and with CL football they may get the odd player who they otherwise wouldn't.

But I do think they will struggle next season with the added games from European competition. Unlike the bigger clubs who can usually rotate during the group stages and still qualify (though with the new seeding the groups do have the potential for the odd group of death), Leicester will likely play there best team in the CL as its a one off experience for them. So will feel the effect of the extra games early in the season and if they somehow manage to get through the group stages the intensity of the games in the knockout rounds will be difficult for them to handle along with league fixtures.

It'll be a fantastic journey for the fans though and I'll be hoping they do well in Europe.

    I share this sentiment.

My fear - no, my expectation - is that Leicester will struggle massively. Look what it did for Everton, a few seasons back.

I hope I am wrong; but history, unfortunately for Foxes fans, is on my side on this one.

And Spurs. You couldn't keep pace in the Prem and play CL 2010/11

  5. Yes, but we had far greater depth and quality in our squad than do Leicester, not forgetting, of course, that we had Bale at his best!

Sorry typo: "And Spurs. You couldn't keep pace in the Prem and play CL 2010/11"

  7. We did about as well as any one would have expected with the resources we had. We fared better than Everton did, that's for sure.

No way will Leicester have anything like what we had, so you've got to expect that they're going to struggle massively, next season, as I have predicted.

We'd certainly need far greater squad depth than we currently have. But, hopefully, IF we get CL, and with the new Sky money coming next year, we'll be able to sort that one.

  10. There is always that possibility, of course, CFC.

I'm hoping, however, that Levy won't make the mistake he made last time, when he failed to used the CL money to strengthen the squad. Plus, of course, we lost both Modric and Bale in successive seasons, as well as slipped into a striker-crisis. I am hopeful that we can not only keep this current squad together, and that it will grow stronger and stronger with experience, but that Levy will add a few experienced players to it, and that Poch will promote a couple more youngers. I don't think we'll struggle as much as we did last time, which - let's be honest - presented us with a massive learning curve.

Cambiasso was very good, but he was also 92.
Inler clearly made a massive mistake and was desperate to leave in the last transfer window.
He's also a bit passed it, which is why he went to Leicester, instead of joining a bigger side.
Doesn't look up to the pace of the Premier League either, in the few games that he's played.

  13. Leicester v West Ham

This is a game that Leicester should win, yet the Spanners seem to be making a fight of it.

  14. Leicester 1 v 0 West Ham

It's going very much the way I predicted.

  16. I was hoping that my astute powers of prediction would have deserted me, just this once, and that I could have provided Leicester with some kind of jinx. Alas, I am simply far too good.

I don't get all this "Leicester winning the league would be romantic" bullshit. If they win they are the best team. Romantic for me is when a male pornstar looks down just before he's about to cum on her face, and gives her a subtle warning to close her eyes.

    Interesting stat;

That equalising goal came from the 11th penalty Leicester have been awarded this season. That is the most in the Premier League.

In contrast, West Ham's penalty was their first away in the Premier League since October 2010.

I'd have to agree to an extent. Just seen it all again. Vardy - definite dive, stupid thing to do when you've got a yellow ( probably a little harsh) against you already.

The Hammers' penalty was also pretty stupid. Normally you'd just say that that's just the kind of **** that goes on in every game. But Moss had just specifically warned the Leicester defenders about holding in the area.

The penalty against Carroll. Very harsh, IMO.
