Never said 15 mill would come rolling in. What is a specialist defender? Sounds like a term you have just made up. Man United paid more for Shaw I'm sure, so who knows what they would pay. Also a wing back is still expected to defend so 'not a defenders arsehole' is hardly an endearing assessment of his ability.
Robertson isn't worth £15million, now or ever. He has a lot of good attributes but also a lot of weaknesses in his game, his positional play is poor at times, very often caught out of position, technically not that great maybe. Still a young fella though and is similar to Maguire with his positive intent and drive. Man U spunk money left right and centre so fingers crossed they would pay us over the odds for him anyway
A premium seems to be paid for full backs. Look at chambers at arsenal. Was he not about 20 mill I would say Robbo is better than him so you never know. I would say he is our most valuable asset anyway ? Hernandez was up there before he went off the boil so I recon Robbo is the only one worth 10 mill plus?
Okay, thought you did when you said "Bollocks. You don't get linked consistently with the clubs he has and for that kind of money if he's as bad as you make out.". That kind of money being discussed was £15M. Specialist defender is someone who has a natural defending inclination, the opposite of attacking, as I believe Robbo's attacking inclination is much stronger than his defending one. I have heard many people use that term in one way or another, it's nothing special. Not a defender's arsehole is a play on TigerRoo's criticism of strikers, which means he is not that good at it really, a bit of board fun. That doesn't change the fact that Robbo is not a particularly gifted defender.
I agree, he obviously is gifted but like others is just out of form at the moment. If we can squeeze £15 million for him that'd be good business; if we don't go up that'll get us 5 or 6 players plus wages.
Anyone who signs a player on three performances especially with the whole team struggling like that would be a moron.
He's still one of, if not the best left footed wing back/left back/defender in this league. I think £15m is quite feasible given his age and the fact that allegedly 2 clubs are interested. Let's create a bidding war! £15m is peanuts for the amount of TV money sloshing around the PL.
I'd aim to sell Diame, Hernandez (purely because I don't think he'd be interested in another season in the championship) and Robertson. With any luck we'd be seeing £30million come in. Reinvest in a solid championship left-back, a midfield enforcer, then go for a double swoop; McCormack and Cairney from Fulham (both score goals and have a good number of assists year after year in this league - Fulham are what, 2nd or 3rd highest scorers? despite being in a relegation battle).
Those three wouldn't bring in 10 million let alone 30 million Daz. Cairney could have been in the Premier League and making a name for himself but he only has one leg. Keep him on his right and he is negated. Why hasn't he worked on this and/or why haven't his coaches done something about it? I mentioned same when he was with us but the reply I got from 'someone in the know' was that "he couldn't be arsed"!
Brady is a better player than Robertson for me and we only got £7million for him, if we get £15 million for Robertson then hallelujah praise the lord, but football is like that now so maybe we will get daft money
£3million for Diame, £12million for Hernandez and £15 million for Robertson. Despite his erratic form, £3million for Diame is cheap - a prem club will take a punt as a squad player at that. We paid nearly £10 million for Hernandez, we've improved his goalscoring instinct since he's been here and it's about the going rate for a high-scoring Championship striker. £15million for Robertson - although we've not seen him at his best much this season, it's evident he has something when going forwards. The big clubs with better coaching staff maybe feel they can coach defending into him. Also, considering Man Utd paid £30million for Luke Shaw, £15 million wouldn't be too bizarre a fee. Cairney: Scored: 7, Assists: 6. 1 goal was a header and 1 goal was with his right foot. He has worked on his play - watch him now to the player he was when he was here - huge improvements. It's nonsense about his 'attitude' - I work with his sister. The reason he celebrated so passionately when he scored against us at the KC was because of the way Bruce treated him towards the end of his time here. He'd not move back here if Bruce was still in charge (which he wont be should we stay down), and he still has a house up here.
Bless. He was overweight, slow, one footed and unmotivated under Brown, Dowie, Pearson and Bruce, which is why he got ****ed off by the club. Seems like he has belatedly got fit and focused, but he needs to accept he has only himself to blame for the way things have turned out.
I respect your opinion Daz but if we get 12 million for Hernandez and 15 million for Robertson I will personally strip naked in front of Paragon Station, ram a Didgeridoo up my arse and fart "Waltzin' Matilda" and at the same time singing "Falling in Love with You" all whilst stood on one leg!
I think it's more to do with hype - Brady had been on the scene a while(despite being young), where-as Robertson has come from the bottom league of Scottish football to a full international and regular in a Premier League/Championship side within the space of 2 years - a quick rise and a raw talent.
He was a regular under Brown, Pearson and Barmby. He got injured pre-season in a bad tackle at Doncaster and Bruce never gave him another chance.
