I remember watching an episode of Outnumbered (Hugh Dennis sitcom) in which one of his children has a foreign exchange student visiting.
One of the running jokes was the foreign student wanting to watch the tv programme with that silly man Boris pretending to be the Mayor of London.
Thought it was funny then, and can see why someone might get confused, in real life.

So at what point does Boris have to drop the dumb act? When he tries to become leader of the Tories? When he tries to become Prime Minister? If he actually becomes Prime Minister? I know dubya was a clown but has there ever been a world leader before that used it as an act?

In a few years we could have Boris as our PM and Trump as Pres of the US.
George Orwell never envisaged anything that scary in 1984

You won't be able to afford the Rioja due to all the new duties we'll impose on it, once we've exited Europe.

What actions or non actions has Boris made to make London life so miserable?

Just curious, London politics is not something i really follow, but interested in the mayoral business, now Hampshire is expected to be getting one.

He's done absolutely nothing, that's the problem. Ken Livingston, for all his faults, oversaw massive improvements in public transport; Boris has introduced one expensive vanity project (the new, impractical and frankly pointless Routemaster) whilst presiding over a threefold increase in fares.
Livingston introduced the Congestion Charge, dramatically reducing traffic in central London; traffic is now back to the level it was before the charge, and no action has been taken to address it.
The last Mayor created open accessible spaces like the London Ring nature walks and the South Bank river walk; on this one's watch, more and more public space is becoming effectively privatised and fenced off, while charges have been introduced for playing softball in parks.
On housing, Ken Livingston worked hard to encourage the expansion of Housing Associations providing secure tenancies for working people; under Boris, new developments of luxury appartments are soringing up like mushrooms, being sold at property investment fairs in Hong Kong and St Petersburg and subsequently sitting empty. There is a massive, scandalous housing crisis in the capital forcing working people either to the margins or out altogether; Boris' response has been to give a free hsnd to developers and speculators, waiving through building projects while exempting any obligation on the part of the developers to provide a % of "affordable" housing. Affordable to this administration btw means up to 80% of the market price.

So what's Boris done for Londin? A resounding "**** all". What's he done for property developers and overseas speculators? Plenty, thanks ( The Shard and Old Scotland Yard both owned by Qataris). What's he done for Boris? Never missed an opportunity for self promotion. The bloke is an absolute waste of space, a self aggrandising muppet with no sense of public obligation or duty whatsoever. Compared to him, David Cameron is a beacon of decency and public service.

Not all the people of London, no. But his charm clearly worked on sufficient numbers of the electorate to get him elected.

My big worry is, if he can fool enough Londoners to get elected Mayor, he msy be able to fool enough Britons to get himself elected PM; a truly terrifying prospect.

Thank you for the reply...Hope it didn't throw you into a bad mood.

Good to link his policies with the housing crisis in London.

My newspaper today is full of photos of some German woman and her Greek partner and all of their extended family living a life of bloody luxury on state hand outs. This has convinced me to vote for Brexit. We can then send them back where they came from and let their own countries pay for their upkeep. I am going to post this on the politics thread.
