instead of the league cup that played in the week i think it would be quite good to have a cup that includes all the uk leagues and would like to see how the scotish teams would go in it as in the past there has been lots of debate of trying to get rangers and celtic in the prem (they would be as good as blackburn or villa imho) would be a good compromise! i know it would never happen but what do you think about it?
Rangers and Celtic would be lower league Championship at best. Provided they managed to work their way up there from the Conference Leagues. IMHO
This would be an excellent chance for the likes of Hearts and Celtic to experience international football.
I'm sure the Police would love it.................. Anyway, it will never happen - the FAs of Wales, Scotland and northern ireland have made it very clear that they don't wish to do anything that might make FIFA consider whether they need separate representation (and i wholeheratedly sympathise with that) so they are not going to agree to this.
It's a nice idea, but as you said, it's never going to happen, which is a pity. What fan doesn't like the chance to see their team tested against new and unfamiliar opposition? I was thinking about this sort of thing a while back, a Celtic competition, or expanded Setanta Cup, between the League of Ireland, Irish League, League of Wales, and Scottish leagues. The major sticking point would be travel costs. I can't imagine Haverfordwest County's budget coming out too healthily if they drew Aberdeen, Inverness, or Finn Harps. Still, especially for small leagues like the League of Ireland, a bit of fresh competition would be nice.
Will never happen as mentioned. What would be the point anyway? No Welsh, Scottish or N Irish teams would make it to the quarters anyway.
Very true. I mean, I can't think of any time Celtic or Rangers have beaten English teams in the past 10 years or so.
Ryan Giggs And to think at that time everyone thought he was too much of a gentleman to go down easily
Rangers 2-1 Leeds Utd 1992 Champions League Leeds 1-2 Rangers 1992 Champions League Celtic have also in recent years beaten Blackburn, Liverpool and Man Utd in Europe
"the FAs of Wales, Scotland and northern ireland have made it very clear that they don't wish to do anything that might make FIFA consider whether they need separate representation" Such as Cardiff and Swansea playing in the English leagues?
Aren't they now English affiliated or something as there's a separate league of wales? Anyway, I really meant things like not wanting to paly as a GB team and all the rest of it. I knew someone would find a flaw in my bloody argument though.......
The Setanta cup is played with teams from all of Ireland, north and south. There is two seperate FAs and as far as I am concerned FIFA haven't batted an eyelid.
