as they wanted a permanent deal (according to Sky sports)

I would have thought a loan deal would be preferable (as long as they are paying all his wages) as it would provide cover in the second half of the season if god forbid Ba's knee can't take it/we don't bring in any strikers.

Also a few starts in the Championship might be the making of him.

Agreed, a loan in the Championship is exactly what Ranger needs. That and a kick up the arse. I hope we're not rejecting his transfer because we intend to not go into the market for new strikers ourselves and want to hold onto everyone else though.

Also is this really the best picture SSN had to use?

I wouldn't mind him going out on loan to Birmingham since Hughtons there, could give him the oppertunity to bag some goals and get his confidence up. But Birmingham can't buy players, can they? With all the trouble thats going on with the owner..

So thats why Ranger got a 5 year contract <doh>

Probably would have agreed if it wasn't Hughton in charge

I don't know if Hughton is the manager to get Ranger in line anyway. Nothing against the gaffer, but he doesn't exactly run the tightest ship, and he didn't manage to get Ranger on the straight and narrow when he was here

I think this deal would be a great option for both clubs, but as usual MA is probably looking to cash in, even if its a small fee.

    This.

How do we expect to get a permanent deal for him when he hasn't scored in over a year? Even if we want a permanent sale, we'd get a much better price if he had a decent season in the Championship. Plus, if he sorted his head out and got his game together he could come back to us a better player.

Insane decision from the Pie Man. <doh>

I think a loan deal might appeal once we get another striker over the line ( erdinc???) would make no sence to ship him out on loan or sell him until we know where we stand with regard our own plans. Clearly Ranger doesn't fit pardew's plans this season but rather have him here than send him else where and potentially leave ourselves short.
