It's a funny one isn't it. Going forward we time and again cut through ten, found space, but frankly, we lost the midfield battle as we never really got into strong positions until Redmond came on. Ultimately though, our defence, Olsson aside, played like amateurs. Dreadful. Run ragged by Defoe. I am 100% certain that the injury to Klose decided this match - we would not have lost with him playing.
Obviously not, we could have played for another 90 minutes and not score. Can't blame the ref, never looked like winning that game when we went a goal down.
How can you not blame the ref!? it would have been 1-1 if he treated both sides the same!! we wouldn't have been so far forward for their 3rd.
We can blame the ref all we like, the fact remains that we are simply not good enough to be in the PL next season. Not just on today's showing (or lack of) but all the other countless "non-starters" we have witnessed in the last 7 months
I only saw the first claim for a penalty and it clearly wasn't on Jarvis, the one Wisdom conceded clearly was a pen. Not going to blame the ref this time as really we should have done better. Just goes to show how good Klose is, let in 4 goals since he's been out.
We desperately need Klose back, Bassong isn't good enough. We may as well put Redmond up front too. At least he had two decent efforts and looked interested.
Push on Jarvis would have been a pen against us. I didn't think it was one, but Sunderland would have been given it. Mbokani got dragged down by his arm wen running through on goal. That was 100% pen. Push on Mbokani, probably not, but again, if it's against us, it would have been given. Push on Bassong I think was one. Was pushed when going for a header so he missed it. Again, against us, that would be given.
Unlucky lads. Should have had a Pen at 1-0 when Kaboul held on to the shirt till he dragged him down. Couple of shouts that could have gone either way. Our second could have been ruled out too, I need to see it again it looked like a leg tangle, who's to say who made contact with who? Meaning the stronger player gets punished. All rests on the the path the players were taking so I'll watch for that on MOTD but it looked like it could have gone either way. You didn't get the rub of the green but you couldn't score and your defence was all over the place from kick off to the final whistle. That's where you lost the game. Ref had a poor game but he always does. Got at least one big decision wrong. Bout time an eye in the sky pulled the ref's strings. Technology means they should be nowt but a courier of information. Game on lads.
I'm really annoyed Hoolahan and Redmond didn't start. I'm annoyed Brady came off at HT. I think AN bottled it.
The refereeing definitely was bad today. BUT the one thing I would say is that we didn't help ourselves by getting in Marriner's ear because (rightly) he will have been thinking there has been no injustice after reviewing his decision at half time. It's all very well screaming blue murder when a really bad decision causes you to concede, but where there wasn't I think it just made Marriner dig in and refuse because he felt he was in the right. Double backfiring. Ultimately, awful challenge by Wisdom left us behind. Awful decision not to just welly it by Bassong left us win a mountain to climb. The ref just added to the injustice but we were architects of our downfall.
It hasn't helped my mood, that all the BT commentators kept talking about how great the ref was today, and how brilliant Sunderland were!!? What is this vested interest in trying to relegate Norwich City?! We must be one of the lest liked clubs in English football, and I don't know why! All these decisions going against us game after game, and no-one notices or makes a fuss of it! Imagine if it happened to Chelsea or Man City!! It would be all over the back 3 pages of the papers!
Only time we'll know for certain is at the end of the season. The 3 worst teams will be relegated. Whether that's us and Newcastle, us and you or you and Newcastle. Table doesn't lie after 38 games.
True but huge momentum in your favour. Our run ins are probably equally tough, but that better goal difference and extra game could well take it
First time I can ever remember them congratulating Sunderland. And Cattermole was class today mind. I thought we looked more likely from the moment we scored. Should've had another 2 if not for poor decision making in the final third. What decisions went against you? A penalty for a reckless dangerous challenge? Or a non-penalty for a push (which happened at the other end twice as well but you never get them. We never do)? You sound like the West Ham fans saying that the FA are conspiring against them! They're not. We've had our share of bad decisions this season.
Agreed. It's completely in our hands now and we don't have to rely on anyone else. Only team down there that can say that too. I like Norwich. Would rather palace went down but if it's you or us, sorry but I have to vote for us.
Marcus mate you're barking up the wrong tree. The referees have been absolutely dreadful to us, not least the penalty last week we should have had against Palace which all the commentary said was the clearest pen you'll see. Today Marriner cocked up twice with the clear penalty on Mbokani when shirt pulled and the clear foul on Bassong for the second. Even Howard Webb in the commentary said those were nailed on. He was also terrible with the little niggle fouls giving us very little, but ultimately that didn't lose us the game, so no on this occasion, crap as he was, the ref didn't cost us exactly. They have, multiple times, earlier in the season though.
Except when it counts. When you got all the decisions. Good luck to you though. You guys must be on cloud 9.
