In his defence he has improved a lot this season. He's gone from totally shot of confidence and way out of his depth to confident and up for it. He will go down in folklore for that goal and it should give him great pride and confidence that he is good enough and has a place at the club.
Both Sakho and Lovren were awful against Dortmund. But they weren't helped by having Milner in CM. Lovren still isn't good enough.
In the eyes of some supporters Sakho can do no wrong, I think Sakho and Lovern have future with Liverpool FC.
It's simple. There are still big improvements needed from Lovren despite the significantly better level of his performances since Klopp arrived. If we want to be a solid top 4 side, and then a side that has a run at the title, he's got to be a lot stronger week in, week out. But this applies to pretty much every single player currently at the club and is reflected in the league position. From where he was under Rodgers - lost, weak, a handicap, dismal - to be saying this in itself is pretty miraculous.
That's a fair statement right there. Klopp's given him confidence but our league position and consistent leakage of goals from set piece would indicate neither cb are all that in the air compared to say Leicester donkeys
Agree with this but I'm going to play devils advocate... Would he not be better if surrounded by better players?
I don't know, with him it would go one of two ways I reckon, either even worse or sky's the limit as he seems to be very much a confidence player ... better players would either inspire this or make him paranoid about his own frailties and cripple him. Only way to find out is to see it, hopefully next season. When he was 'good' at Shampton who was around him on the pitch, they did have some quality players, did
I was going to use Saints as a example. Not necessarily better players but a better defensive setup meaning more protection. Better players would mean protection too. I don't think he's good enough to be our first pick but I do think he's improved a lot and is good enough to keep around. It really depends on how much we could get for him I guess. £15m+ and it's probably worth selling to strengthen the squad.
It's a good point but then we're merely masking his inability. It's similar to 13/14 - our attack masked the massive issues in defence and midfield. I think Lovren's improvement this season is down to two things - better defensive structure, and playing safer. He has improved but he's still poor - difference is, he's no longer making those big howlers but still making subtle positional errors. And it's not just Lovren. Sakho has been poor and inconsistent since his injury. On a side note - I think Moreno deserves some praise - he's played very well over the last few games.
