Blame the parents, nah it's not always the parents fault. Kids have access nowadays to more influences don't they, social media... internet, there's goths and emo's who form cults and do bad things 'for the devil' and all that ****. In our day, you managed to get hours of fun for the entire community of kids when you managed to put a rope round a branch and put a tyre on the end. Usually somebody would go home after getting a slap round the grid, but you'd be mates again the next day. Now.... who knows, it's just ridiculous as you say.
From the tone of the answers there is the theme of they have everything but nothing. For me parents are fighting a losing battle against peer pressure, social media, interweb porn and Christ knows what else. NZ kids are big into outside activities but when you see a kid sat on the back of pony and texting whilst waiting to go into the show ring it puts a whole new slant on it.
