Two teenage girls have been arrested on suspicion of abducting a toddler in Newcastle city centre. The three-year-old girl went missing from the Primark store on Northumberland Street at 4.55pm on Wednesday. A major search was launched, with officers scouring CCTV belonging to the council and local shops. Police found the girl over an hour later several miles away in Gosforth. A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "It was quickly established that she had left the store with two teenage girls who she did not know." The suspects are aged 13 and 14. The toddler was "quickly reunited with her mother" after the incident. Chief Inspector Dave Gould said: "This has been an incredibly distressing time for the girl's family and specialist officers are working with and supporting the family. "We mobilised all available local police resources to make sure the girl was found as quickly as possible and also included assistance from the public, and many of our partner agencies including Newcastle local authority and university as well as staff from retail premises, bus companies, train station and metro system. "I would like to thank all of those involved for their help in finding this little girl and helping reunite her with her mother." Hopefully stupid teenage kids playing a prank that has back fired. Folk will have to keep their children on leads before long.

The pair, aged 13 and 14 from Tyneside, are also accused of shoplifting dummies, baby milk and a bottle. The toddler went missing from a Primark store on Northumberland Street in Newcastle city centre at 4.55pm on Wednesday. A major search was launched and officers scoured CCTV belonging to the council and local shops. She was found an hour later in Gosforth, several miles from where she was last seen. The accused, wearing grey tracksuits, appeared in the dock at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court, sitting as a youth court. The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are both charged with kidnap "with the intention of committing a relevant sexual offence" contrary to the Sexual Offences Act of 2003. District Judge Roger Elsey told them: "You appreciate that you are charged with very serious offences." He also told them not to discuss the case on social media. They spoke quietly to confirm their address and date of birth. Both defendants were denied bail, ordered to be tagged and remanded into local authority care, to live and sleep at an address, from 7pm to 7am. They were also told they must not enter Newcastle city centre. No relatives of the pair or the alleged victim were in court for Friday's 30-minute hearing. The case was adjourned until 13 May when the girls will appear before North Tyneside Youth Court
Now I do! The fact that they were nicking dummies and bottles suggests to me that they were gonna go home and pretend they had a baby of their own or something weird like that, but maybe like you say, some scruff has offered them £50 to nick a kid and all the clobber needed to run off... serious ****.
It's not right like at all like. Either way it's ****ed up. Good job they were caught or this could have been so so much worse.
The sexual abuse bit is confusing mind, it's a broad term as we all know. I guess it would all come out in the wash, but it probably won't... unless there's an adult involved. Hopefully just a couple of twisted kids.
It seems they were apprehended in the park just off Gosforth High Street. Its quite an affluent area around there so not sure why they ended up there or if they were just passing through.
