The Dortmund players in unison going and clapping their fans, our lot would have disappeared down the tunnel, and the Liverpool fans have been epic all night, some clubs just manage to forge a great bond between team and fans and vice verse, we lack that big time, especially at the Emirates where the atmosphere is toxic.
Credit to Liveepool but their fans are going to be more insufferable than usual now. (Watch this space below)
Amazing spirit from Liverpool, but that bottle job from Dortmund is one of the worst I've seen in recent history, especially with what was at stake and considering they were the favourites to win the competition. Their defence was so brittle throughout the game, despite how menacing they looked when they attacked.
its a shame that the atmosphere at the Emirates is nowhere near what it is at Anfield. at 3-1 down to Dortmund, our fans would have turned on the team quicker than you could say 'over'. Its a true paradox. Our fans won't get behind the team until the team show us they can win, but our team won't win until the fans get behind the team.
Yes passionate fans give a psychological boost but professional footballers earning multi million pounds a year cannot wheel that out for an excuse. I don't buy that chicken and egg dilemma. That passion we saw tonight is built on years of glory, ups AND downs but especially the magical come back wins that remain engrained in the memory, of which tonight was another chapter for them. Whereas we have fans and a board that are too scared of the risk of losing fourth place to even throw the dice and try something different. In contrast we have a fourth place trophy which will be greeted with a civilised applause at the Emirates much like after the announcement of reasonable profits during an AGM of a blue chip dinosaur....steady dividends until we die....too afraid to buy a ticket for the jackpot. AKBs can't complain, the lack of atmosphere is a direct result of the timidity of our balance sheet approach.
By the way, when was the last time we had a comeback like that, especially at such a late stage of a European tournament. Oh yes the come back against reading when 4-0 down during early rounds of the worthless cup.....says it all really. Ok Wigan final was an exception, but that WAS Wigan. It's been circa a decade since Wenger created a team that produced magical comebacks at the highest stage....we had great European nights during the Henry era but that's long gone. He simply can't instill the magic in players anymore.
the last significant comeback that comes to my mind was when were 2-0 down to Bolton away from home, and had 10 men, and still ended up winning 3-2, that was back in the 2008 season. I'm trying to think of other games since then.
Would have thought being 2 nil down in a fa cup final v Hull in 2014 and winning 3-2 would have been more significant and recent!
Top 3 should be CL. It's a joke we have 4 places to be honest. We're absolutely dire (for the most part) as a nation in Europe.
Well we could have 5 next year if you win the EL . Though it will probably be another dire year for English teams in Europe as a nation considering two of them will be Leicester and Spurs, one who has no experience in the competition, and the other neither as well when you consider the vast majority of this current Spurs bunch including the manager and coaching staff were not involved in their last UCL run. This is a Spurs side who got taught a footballing lesson by the same Dortmund you just knocked out.
All this does is dilute the Champions league tournament. It's always the same old teams that reach the finals anyway. The whole thing is a mockery, calling it "Champions" league. What a load of bollocks.
Lol chelsea are rubbish but we made them look so good I remember there was talk of chelski finally turning their season around after their performance and result against us. man we are so pathetic under wenger at the moment and then you still have blind sheep who think he is the right man at this club hilarious.
Our team didn't have any Champions League experience that last time either, and we still went further than your lot who play in it every year. To suggest a team can't do well at something unless they've prior experience is ludicrous. Out of the top 3 teams in the Premier League, the only players with experience of winning the competition are Cech and Huth.
