Imo Man Utd are showing signs of a revival. Their youngsters are looking very promising, whilst Smalling is looking better and better. I always liked utd teams of the past because they played attacking football with many British players in the side. Last night I believe nearly half the side were English with Rooney coming on as a sub. Rashford looks a real talent and I'm increasingly impressed with Lingard.
As I've said in the past, I can completely separate my feelings about a player as an individual and their ability as a footballer.
The dream didn't last long for Liverpool. 9 minutes gone and 2 nil down. Jesus Christ, just how annoying is Michael Owen on commentary. Talks pure bollocks in that whiny voice of his.
What a fantastic game and win for Liverpool. Anfield on European nights is a special place. Another great win for a British team.
The subs made all the difference. Exactly the players I thought would be introduced and withdrawn, and the impact was immense and immediate. Great win.
Just watched the highlights. Liverpool looked awful at the back, but got away with it. I was really pleased they got through, but then they had to start all that bollocks about how special their supporters are, which just pisses me off. Another minutes silence for Hillsborough - fine, but how often do they commemorate Heysel?
Honestly. I was seriously thinking that Firmino was always on the verge of getting a red, some of his tackles in the first half were reckless in the extreme. And he'd not contributed that much. Lallana was his usual ineffective self - his passes, when they went to a red shirt, were putting his teammates under real pressure, and his effectiveness going forward was highlighted by the daft miskick. They were the least effective members of the team, and as such were the obvious candidates for subbing. Sturridge was always coming on, and they needed a midfielder who would be strong and able to hold, as well as providing some flair going forwards. Allen was the most likely candidate. It's not often I agree with substitutions, but this was one, so I thought I'd mention it...
Shame, I wanted Dortmond to win - they are a wonderful team and have a great support. I was going out with a girl from Dortmond when they won the Champions league back in the 90s and have had a soft spot for them ever since
I fancy Liverpool to go on and win that competition now. They drew Villarreal in the semi final. The other semi final is between Sevilla and Shakhtar Donetsk. City drew Real Madrid who I fancy will beat them.
Villarreal will be no pushovers in the semi's and I still believe Sevilla will be the team to beat, winners the last 2 seasons....... Actually think the Uefa Cup is the better competition, not over hyped like the other one especially as their preferred final has gone south, they've had to content themselves with Real v Bayern.....hope for that alone that they get City v Athletico final......
Dortmond are a very good team with great supporters, however I always support the British teams in Europe.
Villareal are a very good team, Liverpool will do well to beat them. Shaktar are an amazing story as they haven't played in Donetsk for nearly two years because of the Ukraine 'civil war' and play 600 miles away in Lviv. If any team deserves to win the competition it's them. I think Citeh have got a chance against Real as they are not as defensively sound as Bayern or Atletico, hopefully both Citeh and Liverpool will make their finals. Also, if City and Liverpool both finish outside the Top Four in the PL but then both win their Euro Finals both will be in the Champion's League next season and the fourth place team will miss out, imagine ManUre missing out because of Citeh and Liverpool, bring it on...
