The only good thing about that thread was the mods locked it so quickly. Information can be dangerous, hiding behind an ITK while wanting to be the first with the info is fine, but be prepared for a bit of stick once you back that horse. Think he got off lightly myself......
I don't doubt you genuinely believed it to be true, to me you don't come across as a WUM. I'd rather you pass on any info that comes your way than hold back, I like a bit of gossip me.
Pass it on, but ffs don't sensationalize it. It was like you were so excited to report it, you didn't consider what you were reporting.
I have now seen the footage and am very happy to be wrong and that he is back with the squad. what I can say is that with total confidence is Steven Davis definitely suffered a fracture in his ankle, I was told this as a fact by someone definitely knows this to be the case. Now, as I said, I have absolutely no medical training, I have absolutely no idea (beyond the common sense understanding that a hairline fracture is much less serious than say a compound fracture) what the expected recovery period is for the range of those injuries. What I was told when I first heard about the injury last week and again when I heard more on Tuesday was that SD feared he would miss the rest of the season. That is what I posted on here, because I thought it would be of interest to fellow Southampton fans. I can add to this that thanks to heavy strapping and a series of steroidal & pain-killing injections, SD is available again much sooner than he (or at least people near to him) thought he would be...
Relax, I wouldn't worry what people say. You reported what you heard from your source in good faith, and it's not your fault that the news was somewhat exaggerated. It's true, if it was a minor hairline fracture, that can heal a lot quicker than, say, ligament damage, so maybe the initial prognosis was based on the fact that the extent of the damage was still unknown. Having said that, I am surprised he is available for the weekend though. By the way, the reason we closed the thread was that there was no official confirmation of your story, or any other report of the injury. When that's the case people are very quick to jump in and start offering opinions when nobody knows the truth, and that generally just leads to pointless arguments. So it's for everyone's benefit if we just close the thread.
I think Mr Teeth has had a bit of a rough deal here. He posed what he had been told in good faith. He clearly can't name his source and then it is up to us to accept it or not, believe it or not. Some being a little precious here. No need to shoot the messenger.
Steven Davis has broken his ankle and will miss the rest of the season. Now, I seem to be missing some words from this direct quote from the now famous shut 'SD' thread. Like, possibly, maybe, even supposedly. Pipe down defenders, post **** itk info & you get burned, its the way it is.
Forster, Martina, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand, Wanyama, Clasie, Mane, Tadic, Long, Pelle. Bench: Stekelenburg, Yoshida, Cedric, Ward-Prowse, S.Davis, Romeu, Rodriguez. Time to end the Goodison Park hoodoo, 2-1 to Southampton!
The message I initially received stated word for word "Steven has broken his ankle and will miss the rest of the season" It didn't include the words "possibly, maybe or even supposedly". That was what I was told, that is what I posted, no embellishments, no sensationalism, no exaggeration.
Well for future reference, how about start with I've been told by someone fairly unreliable who I believe possibly is close to the player that perhaps....... Your thread upset a few people, and angered at least one, maybe consider your wording a little better. I'd be more heart broken if Steven missed the Euro's than any English player, he deserves this special chance, I feel very strongly about it.
Replace Tadic with either Davis (if fit) or JWP. If we don't look after the midfield Barkley could run riot like he did earlier this season at SMS
I only have one question on the issue threatening to derail the thead: Mr Nice Teeth, what happened to Keith??? Anyway, let's get Davis back in for this one. We'll need to work a lot harder for the win this week. We'll get it though!
