Certainly does stink. They are gonna benefit from this massively. World class stadium with 54-60k fans in, decent team and manager. Think they will be ones to watch next year.

No wonder they didn't want it published. That puts West Ham even more firmly on my 'don't want them to win anything list'. My list just keeps growing and growing!

I wonder whether the extent of this agreement would mean it could be classed as state aid? Which is of course banned in the EU.

Outrageous. Lets hope there's a tiny whistle blower close to the deal ready to blow the lid on how this happened.

Can't knock the powers that be at West Ham for signing up to that deal.

You do have to wonder who the hell was negotiating that on behalf of the LLDC though...

(it'll take 215 years to pay off)

This all stinks like a very rotten stinky thing. The advantage that West Ham gain by this deal is immeasurable. They have essentially paid £15 million for a stadium twice as big as St. Mary's, which cost nearly double that 15 years ago, and was part of the reason we ended up going into administration. They even have a parachute payment built in, so that the rent is halved if they go down!

There surely has to be a full public enquirer into this deal now?

    Among WHU club comments:

The club say they have nothing to hide, believe it is a "great deal" for the club and the taxpayer, and say the stadium offers a true legacy.
The club added: "Someone renting the stadium for 25 days a year cannot be responsible for 365 days' running costs."

On the face of it, that second comment about renting the stadium for 25 days of the year seems reasonable. However, does that mean that WHU are a club without a proper home? I really don't think so. They'll attempt to turn that place into their fortress, sure enough, and to everyone it will be exactly like their own club but without the ongoing costs. In terms of paying off the annual rent, with a capacity crowd of say 55-60K they can manage it in a couple of PL games, or so.

WHU released picture of new wrap around screens for next season. Hmm, home venue or rented stadium for 25 days a year. What do you think?

The realty is that WHU can afford to pack the stadium every week by selling tickets at giveaway prices, given the amount they will get from TV money. They will get revenue from programme and shirt sales etc. And as you say, it is laughable that they are not responsible for the stadium running costs. The only comparable deal in recent years was the City of Manchester Stadium which is rented to Man City by the City Council, and for which the club have paid the vast majority of conversion and improvement costs, as well as the naming rights of course. They also pay the running costs as well as far as I know.

Every other football club in the country should be up in arms about this very fishy deal, it just smacks of corruption and/or incompetence.

They contributed a massive £15m of the figure identified as at least £272m it has cost to convert it to a PL ground.

It appears they won't need to, Chilco. The Olympic Stadium's capacity of 80K was going to be reduced to 55K, but due to massive applications for season tickets, WHU are settling on 60K. The full price demand is almost certainly there. Of course, doing a thing like changing the capacity from 80K to 60K cost them very little, so it wasn't a huge decision to make. No doubt changing the capacity when they feel like it will fall to LLDC as well.

What it probably means is that WHU will hoover up all those supporters who want to see elite football, and the support for Charlton and Leyton Orient, for example, will dip as a result. WHU are going to make the inevitable jump to Top 4-6 status and it will have cost them very little indeed to do it.

If they get relegated, the rent halves.

The more you hear about it, the worse it gets. It's such a MASSIVE advantage, I just don't understand how it's allowed

This West Ham deal genuinely makes me angry. Why am I paying for this while doctors, nurses, police and teachers are being fleeced for all they've got? Disgusting. The taxpayer should not be paying for a hugely wealthy football team to upgrade its stadium. Have they gifted the old one to the taxpayer so we can build council housing on it?

There is rumoured to be a stationery store in the East End of London who had a record sales year. They sold more brown envelopes than ever before.... Apparently.
