Why are people completely over reacting? There is no guarantee that spurs will finish above us this season, and even if they do, one season in 20 hardly constitutes a massive power shift, at best there will be a few points in it this season. Twice they should have finished above us in the last decade, in 06 and 13 and it never meant anything. Without trying to put a damper on spurs, they have a manager that has won nothing, and would need to at least finish in the top 4 for a few seasons to be considered better than wenger. He may take this spurs team onto great things in the next few seasons, or they could just as easily be back in 5/6th next season. The fact they will have to contend with champions league as well, does not mean they are nailed on to have a great season, very few teams can cope with the demands of CL and the PL, and certainly not teams that are not used to it. So I think we need a bit of prospective here, I remember spurs fans on here banging on about how redknapp was a better manager than wenger, and look how that backfired. One swallow does not make a summer, even if the worst happens and they do finish above us, there is no guarantee that it would be a regular occurrence.
What the **** are you on about? Did you finish above us in 2010 or something? Piss off, dirty rabid foul smelling Spuds rat.
Agreed. Whilst I will thoroughly enjoy my entire summer should we finish above Arsenal, there is a world of difference between short-term and sustainable success at this level. The fact that Wenger pulled off something like 17 successive seasons of CL football is an achievement that I know a number of Spurs fans begrudgingly admire, especially considering he did that at a time when you were weighed down with stadium costs and the other big guns in the league were firing on all cylinders. Where he went badly wrong was pathologically failing to take advantage of your improved finances and relative turmoil at your closest rivals. He has placed far too much faith in players who simply flatter to deceive and has failed to address glaring issues with your squad that have been obvious to the entire country for years.
How can Spurs finish above Spurs There is an extra bit of prize money involved for every place higher that you finish
Whatever happens this season. Wherever we both finish, I will remain optimistic for the future for our club. We have a fine young side - the youngest in the premiership - with a very astute young manager. If we can hold them all together, which I believe we can, and then add wisely in the summer, we will be a major force to be reckoned with next year, and in the forseeable future. What has happened this season, and what clubs like City, Utd, Chelsea seem to have forgotten, is that this is a team game. It's all about balance. Leicester have it, as do Spurs, I believe. We can only hope that it's a lesson the others continue to ignore in their pursuit of outspending each other, As Mr Dylan said, the times they are a' changing...
You could be correct or you could be wrong, I remember us having a lot of good young players around 07. Everyone kept saying that the future was bright and the team would only get better. Some ended up not being good enough, or were good for a season then dropped off, others ended up moving for the big bucks, so it is not guaranteed that this team will automatically improve. It could just as easily go the other way, in fact history would suggest that it is more likely to go the other way that the successful way. If you do take this team and progress into winning trophies on a regular basis, I will take my hat off to you and congratulate you.
I don't think we're the finished article just yet, but we're close. We must add wisely in certain areas this summer. The youngsters we have I don't see fading. Kane, Alli, Dier, are all now full England internationals. The oldest players in the side are Vertonghen and Dembele, both 28. The future, assuming we can keep them together, looks bright.
Spurs have all the right qualities to go from strength to strength as long as they keep their manager and players. They have a sound core and defence which should help them maintain consistency.
Yeah, there is a solidity about them this season, as much as it galls me to say. The key to any successful side starts with defence. Ours is about as reliable as a chocolate sundial in the Sahara...
Wenger's most successful period came when we had a solid core and reliable defence. When he shifted emphasis to offense and his "pure philosophy", his teams became more erratic and inconsistent.
Love the way A87 has gone from initially scoffing at the defence from the pro Wenger base, to making the case for the pro Wenger base As for Spurs, fair play to them if they finish above us this season. But as has already been outlined, one year in two decades does not make a power shift. In that time we have 3 titles, two doubles 6 FA cups and CL football every season. They have a mountain to climb to overhaul our achievements.
Take comfort!! You finished above your deadly West London rivals!! Just give them a spanking next season!!
Liverpool are quietly biding their time now that Klopp is there. And who knows they might win the EL. They won the CL with an ordinary team (2005) so it is their DNA to win things even when they are relatively *****.
Walcott , Wilshere and Oxo spring to mind as none of them would have been anywhere near the substitutes bench, let alone the starting 11 during the "Invincibles" era.
The undeniable power of Spurs. <FACT> The "power shift" is nothing more than a measure of the relative performance of both clubs. In the past decade, the Goons have been inexorably been gravitationally pulled towards the level of Spurs. In that time you have escaped that PL gravity on the last day of the season a number of occasions, but this season your luck may have run out. What Spurs are relying on from your owners and manager is the complacent arrogance that this is a one-off, business as usual next season etc without fixing the systemic on-pitch issues. For that puts your club and supporters exactly in the position of the Mousers in May 2010 ...
Those words could have been written about Chelsea up to and including their first title win under Mourinho. Look what has happened since!!!
