As opposed to weakly themed discussions or themes discussed weakly.

We could suggest ideas and have a poll to decide.

Can I suggest Diane Abbott's policy on public schools?

Oh come on SH, we all know that Ms Abbott does not believe in Public Schools, but her son insisted on being sent to one. Seems a perfectly plausable explanation to me.

It was her decision not her child's. She had actively campaigned against other parents having the right to pay for their children's education. When she discovered, like many others, that parents want the best for their children she chose to ignore her previous rantings.
She had also denigrated her colleagues Tony Blair and Harriet Harman for sending her child to selective state schools. Total hypocrisy.

In 2010 she tried to justify her decision by saying west indian mums will go to the wall for their children. She failed to answer when asked if white mums do the same.

No wonder her colleagues are still calling her a 'sell out'. If comrade Corbyn and his fellow trots somehow formed the next government she will be first in the queue to limit the opportunities for parents to choose to pay for education.

Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, vice president of the European Parliament, said Cameron's deal was not legally binding. He warned that MEPs may vote down any elements which hampered the EU's principle of freedom. He also said he will certainly not agree to a change of the directive of free movement.

    Cameron's woes are mounting.

Cameron's deal says that people cannot claim state assistance immediately upon arriving in the UK. It also stipulates that child benefits are paid at the rate of the country of origin. Neither of these can be changed, and are already practiced in some other EU. countries. Other than that I do not know what you are talking about because Britain already controls its own borders - and there is no question of Britain being forced into Schengen.

He was referring to the 'emergency brake' idea, in work benefits for EU migrants being suspended for 4 years in times of pressure. Lambsdorff said this went too far and will vote against it.

It does go too far because it demands that people pay into the system for four years before they can get anything back. These conditions are much different to those enjoyed by the native population and require constitutional change within the EU. which he can, of course, vote against. Would it not be more logical to tackle the source of the problem, namely the countless half legal agencies actually recruiting these people. If every European who worked in Britain was getting the minimum wage and half reasonable working conditions, contracts etc. then they would not need in work benefits - the payment of which simply subsidizes unscrupulous employers.

Not quite Cologne, even with the new living wage, workers in London & the SE will still need In-Work benefits to survive. But I absolutely agree with the principle of what you write - I just cannot see why we are encouraging this level of immigration just to open more coffee shops, sandwich bars, pizza joints and keeping farmers rich on subsidised wages. Only real way to stop it is have employment visa's and that means leaving the EU!

I was reading a survey this evening on what people thought about the EU. It was quite disturbing to find that 25% of the respondents had never heard of Angela Merkel and 35% had never heard of Francois Holland. It is obvious that no one who contributes to this thread is so badly informed, but just what sort of bubble do people live in?

Seems as if the National Crime Agency now know the price list for getting an illegal immigrant into the UK. At €130 it is almost cheaper than my ferry crossing.

    Shocking.
Angela Merkel is some sort of pubic wig and Francois Holland is a flat country near Belljum. Obviously.
