A decent friendly game with both teams creating chances. From a Celtic fan's perspective: We fielded a few trialists and I have to say none of them really impressed. Pletikosa didn't have too many difficult moments but the one big moment came at the first Wolves goal when he positioned the wall poorly and left a huge gap to his left-hand side which O'Hara took full advantage of. Overall, I would be surprised if he's done enough to earn a deal. Same goes for Mphela who did nothing of note apart from one header which was well saved by Hennessey. He was replaced by Lacny for the 2nd half who also failed to make much of an impact. As for the fringe players, Murphy was his usual ineffectual self, Cha bombed forward like a man possessed but without any real impact and Maloney was crap. On the plus side, Matthews had a good game and Wanyama looks like a good buy despite a shaky start. Forrest showed some good touches and by the way he rolled the big Wolves defender in the first half he's obviously been working on his upper body strength over the summer. Overall, a worthwhile 90 minutes for some of the players to get their match sharpness back but nothing to get excited about when it comes to the trialists.
He did okay but he was as much at fault for the first goal because he moved out of the way of the shot. A few good runs and a couple of nice passes from that trusty left foot of his though. I would still rather get in another bona fide CB and use Mulgrew as a utility player.
Shows what I know http://sport.stv.tv/football/scotti...1-lennon-remains-keen-on-croatian-goalkeeper/
Somebody before on here said Doumbe was the last i think. I cant recall anyone bar him, and i can barely remember him bar his cup final goal and looking good in the game he got injured in!!!
I think big Stan Varga was a trialist before you signed him. He was decent but had his Loovens moments.
Its a werid one - before he went to spurs he was highly rated! He didnt exactly do himself any harm there as he didnt play to drop any clangers! The only issues must surely be over an injury? it cant be talent as croatia arent a bad side so 80 caps by 30 is damn good for a keeper?
I listened to an interview with Mick McCarthy last night where he stated that Wolves get £40 million/year TV money; the Old Firm get around £2million. No wonder we can't compete financially.
Well, he came mid-season, got a short-term contract then a longer deal at the end of the season. Same with Doumbe (who was ****e as I recall, even his goal in the cup final was a sclaff ). I was thinking more of all those guys that we've had come in and play a couple of friendlies in the summer. Each pre-season we seem to have 3 or 4 and none of them seem to make the grade.
I cant believe we played a lad last night that was on trial before whom we didnt sign then either?!!! He's 2 years older, did **** all since then (12 games 0 goals) and yet we take him back for a run out!!
