Tbf the opinion of rival fans is a good indicator of where Arsene Wenger is as a manager. Would the fans of any of the top 4 or 5 other clubs want him as manager? I don't know any who would say yes. And before anyone quotes Van Gaal, yep he is **** but Wenger offers little more. Both have been left behind and the sport has moved on. This season more than any other shows he's finished at the top level. Fans of United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool would all say no to him. So should Arsenal fans.
That says it all. Add to that Klopp, Pep, Mourinho... heck even if LVG leaves I wouldn't want Wenger now. That's a damning indictment of a once very good manager. And he's like late 60's so what is he going to offer any club going forward, including Arsenal. And Wenger shouldn't be the focus here anyway, the question is, how are Arsenal actually planning for life after Wenger.
hang on a sec treble! i just saw you put utd in that list but i know youde take wenger in a heartbeat, because you told me
That's what 18 months of LVG does to you I've never been one of the Wenger Out brigade as I have a great deal of respect for the guy, he plays the game in the right way but if you recall I also said his greatest weakness is his defensive qualities. But what's really changed my mind on him is how poor arsenal have been this season with very little competition. He just looks like a tired man who's running out of ideas sadly.
This club has been around for over 125 years, the last 20 does not equate to building the club. Self deluded, shameless grandiose. During the second half of those 20 years he's steadily made Arsenal synonymous with mundane mediocrity, a balance sheet club who celebrate a ticket into a tournament but no serious intentions of winning it.
This season was their best chance of finishing higher than 3rd for 13 years and he has blown it. Great manager in his time but his time is long gone.
A touch harsh I feel, that would be fair to say with regular finishes of 12th to 8th. Of the original Sky (premier league) top 4 you are the only surviving member, the only team who have never dropped out of that bracket and have actually won the league a few times. Yes he has struggled to get you to the very top for a while but you have never dropped out of the showcase places whilst every other team has.
Yeh I think that has always been his one big positive. And he's managed that without compromising his footballing principles.
Erm, not 3 **** wits on NOT606 it isn't. If you want to do a proper fan opinion on Wenger, you actually need to do a proper one, and as I said, not on a bunch of **** wits who are commenting here who all have their heads to far up their asses. Take the dumb West Ham fan for example, him saying he wudnt take Wenger over Bilic is not a damning indictment on Wenger, but a damning indictment on his own ******ation as a fan. Let's see how Bilic does after many years, not just 1 good year. You offer Wenger to most fans in England and Europe, and many would gladly accept him. I have no qualms about saying Wenger is no longer the man to take us to the top, but he is still a very good manager, and yes, one of the best, and yes, better than most of the ones mentioned here like Bilic, Poch, etc, let's see if they can ever do what Wenger consistently does, we all know they won't, 20 years now will Bilic be around? Or will he have come remotely close to Wenger? So yes, Wenger may not be THE best anymore, but he is still a great manager out there, yes I want him gone, I think he is too stubborn, has a lot of flaws, but the man does deserve respect even with his lack of current achievements, even if he spends the next 100 years only getting top 4 and the odd cups, it's still more than some of the managers mentioned on this thread i.e. Bilic and Poch. **** me, I'm sure back in November you'd even have some C. Palace fans on here saying they wouldnt even have Wenger over Pardrew, and look how great Pardrew has turned out for them, what is it, 1 win in like 16 games for them?
As far as I'm concerned the only managers who deserve to be mentioned ahead of Wenger are those with proven track records of success, i.e. trophies, consistency at the top, and so on. When people start mentioning names like Bilic, Poch, Pardrew, and whichever manager that's having one good season, then yeah, my thought process to that is just **** off man. Brendan Rodgers is another great one, when he had that incredible season for Liverpool, many people then would have been saying oh yeah I'd definitely have Rodgers ahead of Wenger, even the dumb scousers commenting on this thread, and we all know how that turned out don't we? Where the **** is Rodgers now? Proposing to his fiancé in Times Square, Liverpool fans would never even dream of having him back now, but 2 years ago, oh yeahhhh Rodgers over Wenger no doubt.
