I think Townsend has suffered a bit by believing his own success story. Earlier in his career he emerged from the youth ranks at Spurs and got headlines by being an exciting fast winger with a fierce cross and shot. Those displays even got him into the England team and 10 caps. Ever since then he has flattered to deceive somewhat, but his reputation persists. He's still an exciting player, but for me he lacks playing discipline, ie, tracking back, etc.., and even Pinocchio seemed unable to get him to learn that part of playing the game.
I'm 100% sure Fran is real, but I've a sneaking suspicion the very lovely Godders partner might be a figment of Mr Grumpy's, and now our imaginations. Of course, I don't exist at all.
Someone on the Echo site has pointed out that of our last seven goals, Graziano has scored four and assisted three. Vin
That's very good to read but the lads didn't have to fight hard today. I think Beefy said they never got out of 1st gear and I would have 100% agreed with that but for a point during the 2nd half when they drifted into neutral, and Townsend took advantage. The team can't do things like that even when 3-0 up. Thankfully, Newcastle were that poor that they never pressed their case and the lads took control again.
It's convinced me I need to start posting more! You seem like a good bunch but I never seem to find time to get on here
This is pretty spot on - http://www.theguardian.com/football...-newcastle-united-premier-league-match-report
Not impressed with the MoTD commentary, gave the impression that our goals were all "accidental", and that we didn't win the game, Newcastle lost it? It really wasn't our fault that Toon were so poor at times, may be it was because we were actually quite good despite never really breaking a sweat?
Think that's fair. Not as a backhanded slight aimed at our performance, but because I'm confident that Newcastle could have found a way to lose even if they were the only eleven players on the pitch.
No one has mentioned it but wasn't that a massive foul on Long by the goalkeeper? I really thought Long got there first.
