Didn't even get out of first gear. It's why our players were so switched off for the Townsend goal. Newcastle are poor. Hope Austin is ok.

Don't understand? Are you worried Charlie may be emotionally wounded by not getting any game time? JAY IS BACK!!!!

A little too casual at the start of the second half for my tastes, but overall a comfortable win. Good stuff.

Onto Goodison now - would be amazing to get something there.

It's early days but his injury record so far (combined with his reputation) is a bit worrying.

Great to meet some new faces today. Good win. The Newcastle defence parted like the red sea for Long. Very kind of them.

Indeed. I hope with a full pre-season he can build up some proper fitness and strength

Beginning to think that we have bought a pig in a poke with Charlie.
Let's hope he can get fully fit for the next season.

Yes. Some time on the pitch in the last 5 games would be good too. Going into next season with Rodriguez and Austin as a major part of our plan is looking a little risky.

Luckily we aren't reliant on Charlie. Hopefully, more recovery time and a good preseason and we could get the best out of him next season.

Difficult to pick a MOMT because they were quite a few candidates, but without any of them really, really shining (we didn't exactly need to put on a great show to yet again record a comfortable win against that rabble of couldn't-care-less characters). But I think I'll go with Mane's.

Loved the way Long took his goal.

Important that Chelsea and West Ham both slipped up. Gives us a chance of 7th again, something which I feared had gone after our defeat to Leicester.

Yes, exactly. Not sure I've ever come back from a game we've won so comfortably and been disappointed. Should have been a clean sheet - how is it that we let a player like Townshend run in on his strong (only) foot and shoot?
But we lifted ourselves when Jay came on - Tadic very poor and Virgil my MOTM.

Wish we'd put a bid in for Townsend. Easily their best player, even without the goal.

Thought Tadic was pretty good actually, used the ball well. Wanted too many touches in the box again though. As mentioned, a lot of players did well without shining as motm
