Simple question really, can we get past Malmo next week and book a place in the play-off qualifier? I think we can still manage it, unless we are setup in a defensive way, looking to counter attack them. For me, this won't work because Malmo are not under any pressure to attack us and commit men forward. I think that they will always have 5 men kept back when they are attacking us. We need to play much wider, leaving gaps in the middle that Davis can hopefully exploit this time. With Jelavic and Naismith up front we have the ability to play the ball long whenever necessary and get it to stick. One thing that Jelavic is brilliant at is taking the ball on the chest, and either bringing midfielders into the game or draw the foul. Naismith is also deceptively good in the air when you consider his height. He was unlucky with his chances on Tuesday, and hopefully he will be given a chance next week, after another fixture and a week of training. We seen last season how good he can be in goal scoring positions, so we need to persevere. The most important thing for me though is to get players in the right position. Ortiz on the left is not going to work because he needs to cut back all the time. Wylde offers us pace, someone who is direct and has a good delivery. Papac has been consistent for us the past few seasons, but he just doesn't offer the threat that Wallace does. The team that I would go for would be this Jelavic Naismith Wylde Davis McCulloch Ortiz Wallace Bougherra Goian Whittaker McGregor I'll be putting my money where my mouth is and placing a £50 bet on us to progress.
I think we'll go through. We made enough chances to put a couple past them at home and see no reason why we won't at theirs. I don't think we'll (hopefully) see Rangers play that bad again this season and can see us going through. Scoreline: Malmo 1 v 2 Rangers
I think the same thing BH I've seen Rangers play a lot of bad games but nothing quite like Tuesday. We still made the chances, and we only need to take one. We done it against Lisbon last year who are a much better side than Malmo. If we get a goal within the first 30 minutes I think Malmo will fall apart. In some ways it can actually be seen as more difficult for Malmo. They won't know how to setup. Do they go attacking, and potentially leave themselves stretched at the back? Or do they go defensive and then struggle to change the system if they concede? At least we know we need to score.
I'm more worried about our league fixtures to be honest. St Johnstone v Rangers Inverness CT v Rangers Motherwell v Rangers Rangers v Aberdeen Dundee Utd v Rangers Rangers v Celtic
It's not like they've got 2 or 3 away goals, they've got one! We can cancel that out in the first 30 and the tie's level again. FFS, they weren't any great shakes and we've got **** all to fear going over there. If anything, having no fans there will help too as you could see the players getting badly affected by the booing on Tuesday. The pressure is all on Malmo and I don't think they'll handle it.
Its only one goal - so of course you can go through They away goal means nothing too as the only way that will come into play is if you win by 1 goal, and that will mean you have scored at least one away goal too -thus is irrelevant really! I think your problem could be that they looked like they could have had a couple more too. and while i think you can score out there - you could also concede very easily too
I think a win on Saturday will boost the morale and hopefully get the lads fired up for the Malmo game. We definitely need to change it up a little and I would go with pretty much the same squad as Magic Laudrup, but if it's not working for us, make the changes and get an extra striker in there, Healy, Fleck, I don't care but give them the chance and put more pressure on the Swedes.
I can't see it. The team has stagnated since '08 with next to no new faces and losing important players along the way. We can't play Edu and McCulloch in the same side.
I think we can still go through but we need to start playing players in THEIR CORRECT ****ING POSITIONS Continually playing guys out of position is a feature of smiths second spell that has really pissed me off and it looks like ally has picked up that habit along with making no subs when we're playing ****e
Yeah, after Malmo should have won the away leg by at least 2 clear goals, I can see them really struggling at home <sallysintrouble>
Somehow I doubt it. I reckon you can get through although I wouldn't want to bet on it. Probably the only achievement of Mowbray's Celtic was getting through against Moscow in similar circumstances (and Moscow were a better team than Malmo imo). They're poor defensively, you can definitely get goals over there. That said a very, very marked improvement in your performance is required.
But then Rangers should have scored 3 or 4 "clear goals" so the score should have been something along the lines of 4-3. 2nd legs don't always mirror 1st legs laddy, do you even watch football?
medro, i was taking into account the goals rangers should have scored when I said Malmo should have won by two clear goals. Malmo should have scored 6 or 7
