I couldn't help thinking that if Klopp was an English manager returning to an English club he used to manage, the atmosphere probably would have been a lot different.
Always depends on how the manager left. We don't show animosity to all our old managers...Hoddle and Poch were the ones that stand out.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...o-betting-habits-research-finds-a6971936.html Research suggesting that many PL players underperform due to gambling worries. Apparently some play for high stakes on the team bus and on overseas tours...not surprised....young men, lots of money with few mental resources to fall back on. Some remarked how on-line gambling made it worse....again no surprise....I think being able to gamble on-line is a curse as you no longer have to make the effort to go out, so no one questions you about where you are going. It is easier to hide what you are doing from your family. Every time I hear someone say in an advert gamble responsibly, I want to put my foot through the screen. There are people just having a bit of fun, but they make most of their money preying on the weak and vulnerable.
I've been meaning to ask for a while but what did Pardew do that makes him so bad? We won the JPT with him. Redknapp and Poch for me. Hoddle was long enough ago for me to forget.
I reckon Dusan could be hooked on high stakes gambling and dragged Pelle and Mane with him. They recently kicked the habit, so it seems... Only kidding, just wondered what other reasons could be for poor form!
A while ago I bumped into a friend who I hadn't seen in a while, and after some initial evasiveness he guiltily said he was now working for a online gambling company, programming betting apps. The most disturbing thing that stuck in my head, in what become an expose; was for the most valued clients, if they lost their phones; the betting company would arrange for a replacement, and actually dispatch a courier to get it to the addict's home or workplace asap. A truly vile business.
The thing about Pardew, if you look at the clubs he's managed, is that there is always a great first season and a bit, before things start to slide. We had a great first season with him: nearly reaching the playoffs after starting on -10 points, and of course winning the JPT. Then Nicola sacked him early the next season, so we don't know what would have happened. But since then, Newcastle and now Palace have followed the same pattern, and the same happened at Charlton and West Ham before he came to us. I don't hate him anywhere near as much as I despise Pochettino, who was a much better manager, or Redknapp, who was just a slimeball. Hoddle was just bonkers.
Well said, Fran. My thoughts exactly - I was dangerously close to a gambling addiction when I was 18/19 and, luckily, with the help of some good friends, managed to get over it and have never had a punt since. It's now wide open to anyone ("on your phone, tablet or laptop") and the "gamble responsibly" is a joke - because you can just rack up huge losses quietly in the corner with no-one knowing. I was lucky that my friends got hold of me and stopped me - that wouldn't have happened if it had been a secret on my phone ............ Not surprising that PL players gamble a lot - as you say, loads of dosh and not huge intellects ....... big risk!
Best on win percentage was Nigel Adkins, but Hoddle was certainly up there. He would have won things with us if he'd stuck around, I'm sure. Him and Poch are just two of the reasons I never want to see Tottenham win the league!
Anyone seen any of the women's international on now. Close up the Belgium kit is very pale blue. From a distance it is almost white and the same as England's. Surprised they get away with that.
Maybe the stripes across the middle make it ok but you're right from a distance it's confusing....if you ignore the shorts.
