Well done on a terrific result last night! Didn't see the game but the atmosphere must have been brilliant and quite emotional with both sets singing YNWA!! Did anyone come away singing new songs in German? It would add to your vast repertoire of songs. My club have an abysmal range, most of them pouring scorn on the unfortunate lot at the eastern end of the M27.
I did predict a final between Liverpool and Dortmund, so one of you has a great chance to get to the final. The moral high ground in me wants two teams in the final that have slogged their way through the group stages, not a CL dropout so lets hope Braga and Athletic can reverse their poor results in the first legs against Shaktar and Sevilla respectively.
I think we've a small lead. the thing is our fans were warned by all and sundry not to bring flares and the echo put pics up of guys letting red flares off in a outside cafe (you know the german sort) total numpties so i hope we've done better than that in and around stadium and bring home a good rep with klopps old side. did see a few with scarf exchanges so i'm hoping it was very positive really.
update. LFC charged with setting off fireworks by uefa dortmund charged with blocking stair wells. please log in to view this image Look fun and all but needed a flare? really? these few guys will eventually end up on a club ban. see the yellow scarves.. hopefully swapped with friendly home suporters. looks a great place to be.
http://www.theguardian.com/football...verpool-europa-league-quarter-final-first-leg the drunken franco baresi nice.
Bad news for Liverpool & potentially England as a scan confirms Jordan Henderson will be out for 6-8 weeks with a LCL knee injury.
I feel this might be the end of Henderson. Last injury took him backwards, can't see him returning to anywhere near he was by which time I expect the club to be moving on (both position and cpt).
What is the objection to flares as they add colour and atmosphere? The only people it is likely to effect are those within the immediate vicinity. Furthermore, what is wrong with supporters like Barca's making a political statement by displaying flags of Catalan Independence. Obviously, right wing protests and racist chanting should not be tolerated.
" I say, large thuggish person - do you realise that incendiary device you just ignited constitutes a danger to the health and well-being of those around you?" " Yer wha, ****face?" " Er, nothing. Carry on old chap."
As if that'll make a difference? Smoke can travel many many rows back so it's not just those close by
I'd imagine flares are kinda large things and can't see why they aren't detected by the police when fans are frisked going into stadiums, shows how easy it must/would be for a fundamentalist to get in with a stick of dynamite instead.
They can potentially burn bystanders and be thrown into opposing fans or onto pitch. Quote: "Flares burn at the melting point of steel and contain toxic chemicals. Designed for marine distress, they are deliberately difficult to extinguish. Smoke bombs also burn at high temperatures and are not designed for use in confined spaces. They can cause panic in a tightly packed crowd and trigger asthma attacks. Alan Weir, Head of Medical Services at St John Ambulance, said: “We know that St John Ambulance volunteers have treated people for burns and smoke inhalation caused by flares at several football grounds. These cases could have led to disfigurement or other serious injuries" http://www.professionalsecurity.co.uk/news/case-studies/football-flare-campaign/ • Leeds United v Shrewsbury Town, 11 August 2012 – two supporters were injured, one requiring hospital treatment, when an industrial firework was ignited and thrown in the away supporters’ toilet. • Coventry City v Walsall, 8 December 2012 – a flare was discharged by the Walsall supporters. A steward placed his foot on the device to prevent further smoke escaping, however the sole of his shoe melted causing injury. • Leicester City v Sheffield Wednesday, 9 March 2013 – a female supporter received treatment for burns to her leg from one of the smoke bombs thrown between supporters. • Bolton Wanderers v Huddersfield Town, 2 April 2013 – Bolton supporters ignited a flare and an 18 year old youth was treated for burns picking it up. • West Bromwich Albion v Newcastle United, 20 April 2013 – fans were treated for shrapnel wounds following the setting off of thunder flashes. Debris passed through jeans and caused cuts to legs. • Wigan Athletic v Aston Villa, May 2013 – a 15-year-old boy suffered lung damage from a smoke bomb thrown during the game. The boy needed hospital treatment, while two women aged 22 and 24, also required attention for the effects of the device. • Liverpool v Everton, May 2013 – an eight year Everton fan was hit by a smoke bomb thrown by fans in the away end. He was treated for a burn on his neck on his first visit to a Merseyside derby. • Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur on 20 October 2013 – an assistant referee was struck by a lit smoke canister thrown from the stand. • In November 2013 a Manchester United fan that set off a smoke bomb during their clash with West Bromwich Albion – Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game in charge – was given a two month jail term (suspended for 12 months) and banned from any football grounds for three years. • In February 2013 two Chelsea fans were jailed for 28 days and given six year football banning orders for taking smoke bombs into the Liberty Stadium for a match versus Swansea City. Their appeal for the sentence was thrown out. • In January 2013 an 18 year old Exeter City fan was jailed for two months and given a six year banning order for attempting to take a smoke bomb into Torquay United v Exeter City. • In August 2012 an Oxford United fan was jailed for two months and given a six year banning order for taking a smoke bomb into Home Park for a match versus Plymouth Argyle.
It'll only take one stupid incident to ruin years and years of work to clean up. If someone injured it'll be quite serious. It's away fans for a reason. Mostly male, younger group, travel, we've all been young lads off on a jolly.. you get silly. Toss a flare it's all fine... til you burn a kid or hit a goalkeeper with a flare.
We all know the answer really. There simply isn't that much searching cos it's hard to check 40k people. You are right the fact the terrorists in Paris didn't get into stadium is actually surprising.
