A few years ago I sold my 5 bed period prop in the best Dublin suburb and used the cash to buy an old pile in the wesht of Ireland. After alterations I didn't have a lot left over, but had a huge mansion with plenty of land, waterfalls, the works.
Had it valued recently and it's now worth about a third of the Dublin property.
    But am I happy?

Same in my neck of the woods. You could not give houses away around All Saints Road because of all the riots, The Mangrove, junkies etc but you have to be Richard Branson to afford them now.

Same goes for Shepherds Bush - http://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/de...d09d8916d35676a5827cfc85c#A9rLTQeoTlmxmt7k.97

I used to run contracts on this estate, boarding up old pram sheds being used by crack whores, sending in cleaners to remove junkies needles, sluice the piss out of the lifts etc and this 4th floor 3 bedroom Council house is up for over half a million quid!!! £525000 for a f*cking sh*thole Council flat. My mate lived on that estate in the 70s & 80s and his parents were offered the chance to buy a flat for £6000 but turned it down.

Trellick Tower's out your way isn't it? That 30 story slum-in-the-sky you can see from the Westway flyover? Flats in there go for just shy of £1 mill.

Probably not mate, no. I'd be ****ing suicidal, pacing around a windswept bog every night dreaming of the bright lights I left behind.

I've heard it's a great place to visit. So's Disneyland but I wouldn't want to live there.

Galway races is on my bucket list though.

And a Kerry accent on a bird is the most beguiling music.

cant speak for manchester but they are not selling for even a third of that in stoke

The whole house for a £1 is not for everyone. Basically you get the house cheap but you have to show a certain amount of money for investment.
Most of these houses were up for clearance under the HMRP and then tories got in and money was no longer available. So this route was seen as a way of regenerating the areas. only really viable for builders with cash and their bessie mates willing to give back handers then turn into lettings for smack heads etc

Last time they tried something similar was governement grants in areas that should have been knocked down. They gave houses £25k to get fixed up. Houses sold for £12k (was a while back)
