I admit I'm not really into Star Wars that much. I enjoy the films but I don't keep abreast of the up coming stuff, or the back stories. I'm a Marvel guy. I naturally assumed that the next Star Wars film to come out would be the follow up to the last one, you know, like the last 2 trilogies.
Reasonable assumption. They're actually releasing one film a year for at least 6 years, alternating between a trilogy film and spin off film. All aboard the Disney milking machine. Disney
I reckon Vader will be mentioned but don't think he'll be in it. I'd like to think they'd move on from characters killed off in the main saga. Having said that though they're making a young Han Solo film....
Vader will absolutely be in it. The film is about stealing the Death Star plans. At the start of IV, he's killing left and right searching for them. He's going to be key in this. The Han Solo film shouldn't be made IMO. The only character film I want is an Obi Wan film set between III and IV. Other than that, I want more spinoff stuff like this or things like The Old Republic.
He was only searching to find them after the emporer instructed him to do so because they were stolen. He wasn't looking after the plans
I never suggested he was looking after them. He was tasked with finding them, but considering they're going to be stolen during the film... Technically the Emperor sending him isn't true, as there's no actual canon which says so anymore. Vader's gonna be in it, I don't get why people don't think he will. It's also probably worth mentioning this film takes place pretty much days before IV, so Vader not being involved would be not only ridiculous from a marketing perspective, but also a narrative one.
I suspect those responsible for letting the rebels steal the plans will meet their maker via Darth Vader. Perhaps he's just in it towards the end to do some killing before starting the search for the stolen plans. Be the logical climax to the film.
I'll admit I didn't have the sound on much, I did sneak watch it at work but I don't know why they'd really have a main antagonist other than a general etc as there are plenty of main characters as part of the squad that steal the plans
Clearly they won't announce who is playing him as they want his involvement to be a surprise... Also, no films announce every single person in them straight away. I believe Mark Hamill was never full-on officially announced as being in The Force Awakens. It certainly wasn't marketed that he was in it.
Mark Hamill was officially announced as been in the force awakens. There was plenty of coverage regarding his involvement, just not so much of his character effectively in solitude. You do find that most big films will announce the cast fairly quickly and with less than a year till release I would expect something to have been announced. Don't get me wrong I think there could be a small cameo but won't be heavily involved at all
Star Wars isn't 'most films'. I'll ask again, if Vader being in the film is meant to be a surprise (which it clearly is), why announce it? For another example, until the trailer about a month ago, Spider Man (played by Tom Holland) wasn't announced as being cast in the new Marvel film, as it a surprise. You've gone from 'Vader won't be in it' to 'Vader will be in it' in a matter of posts.
Again it was commonly known that Spider-Man would be in civil war and was widely rumoured the set up would be shown as early as captain America 2. It was also announced he'd be in it pretty shortly after it was announced he was cast for the role as there was a big hoo ha about Sony having the rights for Spider-Man I've said I don't think he'll really be in it however there is a possibility and if that's the case it will only be a small small cameo
The very first offical picture re The Force Awakens was the cast at a readthrough. Hamill, Ford and Fisher were all present. Cue much excitement. But I reckon Abrams wanted to keep Hamill's involvement a surprise. Of course, Disney had other ideas...
