it was a horrible error from Davies, but we never get away with them do we...always end up in the back of our net.
there defender hesitated in a similar manner 10 minutes later, Diame gets in the exact same position and then just runs out of play with the ball like my granddad used to when trying to play fifa.

Assuming that's correct, it's still Steve Bruce picking the player, Ehab doesn't sign it off based on who it is, he just signs the bit that makes him a City player. He trusts Steve with the scouting. Ha.

Again, still so desperate to defend the manager with regards to something that's obviously his fault.

    Naïve oversimplification.

If they don't like the money, they nix it, so Bruce has to look again and find other players who are probably not his first choice.

Int there owt on FifaManager about this? Like each player has a certain budget and you can't sign all the best ones?

How the **** would I know?

Maybe Giggsy did them a deal that was too good to turn down financially, ie. very cheap.

Maybe Bruce trusts Giggs' judgement when Giggs says he's a top larker who just needs managing right...

    Who knows?

Just the experts on here apparently

Ugh. Okay, in crayon, just for you.

Steve Bruce draws up a list of players HE WANTS. He then takes said list to the people paying the money who make the calls. If it works for all parties, arrangements are made to sign the player, pending the player wanting to come, signing a contract, medical etc.

Players don't just magically appear at the club, there's only one man who picks them. Even if they are 3rd, 5th or 11th choice or whatever, it's still down to SB to choose the players coming into the club. Therefore, he's responsible for the incoming players (and the outgoing ones too), there's no surprises, you don't get lads turning up at the training ground and Steve Bruce being like "****ing hell, what are you doing here? We've not signed you have we?" (although I seem to remember an outburst like that when Alan Rodgers strolled through the door.) There isn't a single player at the club who Bruce hasn't signed during his tenure, so there's no excuses. He knew how good they were, presumably he had them scouted before they came in (or like Jak, were given a trial) and so any failings in terms of ability/not being good enough for this level are entirely on his head, nothing to do with anybody else. The board have repeatedly said they trust Steve with transfers, they're not footballing people so who else would they go to? We don't have a director of football, so it's all on Brucey to make sure everybody is good enough. In terms of performance on the pitch, guess who's job it is to make sure the people brought into the club are playing to their potential? Ehab? Stan Ternant? Tony Pennock?

As for a budget, there probably is one from a directors point of view, but Bruce has always been told (and this has been repeated in many press conferences and interviews) that funds will be based on the player chosen by the manager. We don't have a set number that Bruce has to stick to like you do in video games, that's just done in games to make it easier for the person playing them (and probably the guy/woman designing the game).

Its a bit odd when every man and his dog knew we needed a goal scorer, but we got the two Arsenal loan kids, Powell, Maloney, Taylor, Diomande, the keeper? and they hardly ever get a game. Could / should have used some of that money on Gray or Rhodes.

There was that story / rumour a couple of years back about shady people involved in transfer dealings that resulted in players moving clubs without anyone knowing who from the buying club actually wanted to sign them. I've just looked for it but cant find it and the gist was it happens quite a lot. There was an interview with a player who did just as you said say above - he turned up at his new club and everyone there was like "what are you doing here?" and they couldnt find out who wanted to sign him. He said it was obvious to him straight away that nobody from the playing side knew anything about it. There was also a suggestion that neither Damian Comili or Dalglish wanted Andy Carroll and they both thought the other one signed him. It sounds ridiculous but the story explains it better than i have if anyone can find it.

I'm not saying this happens with us btw...

No, that's how transfers work. You kept trying to bend it to move the responsibility away from Bruce. It's entirely on him.

And it's no time at all dear.

All managers have their time, come in fresh revitalise and have success but eventually things change.
Players get used to the same old pre game speech or half time ramble or eveb full time rant, they stop listening.
There comes a time that no matter what the manager says nothing changes, heard it all before, boring tactics.
Bruce was excellent, now he isn't anymore. His time is done move on.

He signs who he can. That's why he hasn't signed Messi, Neymar and Suarez.

Oh what a great example that is. Obviously he isn't going to sign first team players from Champion's League teams, why did that need saying?

He still chooses the players though, there's a selection process he goes through based on a variety of factors. He doesn't normally try to sign players he doesn't think are realistic, what'd be the point in that?

Let's say Brucie wants to sign Nahki Wells in Summer. He goes to the board, they make the calls. £6m is the price quoted. EVEN IF SB is then told he's too expensive, Bruce still picked the player. So if the board do decide to go through with it, then it's a Steve Bruce signing. The issue isn't with the people signing the cheques, they do just that and have no say in exactly which player they would like to see.

It's like you going overdrawn and then blaming the bank machine for allowing you to withdraw money. How is it the thing doling out the cash's fault? It's the person making the initial decision that's ****ed up.

You don't have to be an expert on anything to know that we could have signed Odemwinge for eight weeks, for less than we paid for a third choice keeper who cost us £250k and is on a 78 week deal. <doh>

And that's leaving Powell out of the equation altogether.
