And how are you measuring that strength? Transfer fee paid? Wages ? Maybe we have a modest attack in comparison with others sides such as Derby, Boro, hell even Bristol City. Hernandez, Akpom, Diomande and Aluko don't strike fear into any defence at this level. It's overly simplistic to blame the manager for the lightweight attack as none of us are privy to discussions on recruitment budget/wage structure at the club. Derby (Blackman) and Borough (Rhodes) spent ambitiously on attackers at the last window, we didn't.
We signed Powell when we could have signed Odemwinge, needed a striker, signed a midfielder, that's entirely down the manager. Can't blame the owners, they won't have heard of either of them.
I wouldn't know the figures behind the Powell or Odemwingie deal. Who knows what figures were involved.
Does it matter? It's an eight week loan, in the grand scheme of things it's a piss in the ocean and I don't believe there's a player than Bristol can afford that we can't.
Are you suggesting that Steve Bruce has no input on transfers? Why are you so keen on absolving him from blame? We have players like Diame, Snodgrass and Dawson, recognised internationals with plenty of Premier League experience and we have no clue how to get them playing. That's down to nobody except Bruce. It's what he is paid for, it's the first thing he is responsible for. Most other clubs would've sacked him at Christmas with the squad we have. These players were bought while we were in the Premier League, so Bruce obviously thought they were of that quality. Now we aren't in that league we expect them to perform better, why wouldn't you? If they aren't Championship quality then why on Earth did we buy them while in the Premier League?
What do the figures have to do with it? Bruce doesn't have control of that, he chooses the players and the board ok the transfer. So the players coming in are chosen by the manager.
Sacked at Christmas Sterling???? He should have been booted a year ago when his complete ineptitude cost us our place in the Premiership and tens of millions in revenues. With his awful record in the second half of last season would any other manager in the League have survived. But we have clueless owners who know nothing about football...and so he's still here...making the same daft tactical mistakes week after week...and being out-thought and out-managed by every manager in the Championship. Unfortunately by the time he's gone he'll have destroyed any chance we have of promotion, and next season promises to be a struggle to avoid a further slide into Championship mediocrity.
Along came an Allamite The bloody awful, bastard, ****e He said he'd come to spend the night With the harlot of Jerusalem
Our problem is our lightweight attack who don't score enough goals to win games. Why rubbish other parts of the team because of our failings in front of goal?
To be fair since the day we signed him I've had no idea where Snodgrass would fit in. It was the most stupid signing we've made in a long, long time.
Are you seriously suggesting that Bruce wanted to sign a striker, but Ehab would only let him sign a midfielder and a third choice keeper?
I don't suggest anything. I leave that to the armchair managers and those who claim to have 'insider' knowledge.
"But only if Ehab signs the paperwork off." suggests that you think Bruce wanted a striker but Ehab wouldn't allow it. Bruce obviously knew we needed a striker, he tried to convince everyone that Powell was one.
