Again, a good performance in a big game (was this the same group of players who tried to lose to Norwich and did against Southampton?) It was close to an old-fashioned away performance in Europe. Keep the crowd quiet, defend and keep the ball when you get it. After half an hour Dortmund seemed to lose it completely and were it not for your inability to defend set-pieces, you could have won comfortably. The referee was shockingly awful and spoiled it a lot as it wasn't a great spectacle. I'm not a student of the German game but I thought Castro gave one of the worst midfield performances I've ever seen.
Mixed feelings on Jordan Henderson's injury. Nothing much against him as a player but we're supposedly very keen on him and I really think we can do better for a lot less.
Hope the return leg is more entertaining. It could be a cracker

It certainly was a good performance Brian thank you, We had a clear game plan, we stuck to it and looked comfortable doing so, imho that was by far our most disciplined and confident performance as a unit since Klopp arrived, that will go a long way in the players trusting in Klopp and vise versa.
A fair result in the end although i feel we had the better chances, Lovren's header and Origi's 1on1 were particular "gifts" we should have done better with.
As you say Dortmund looked lively in the first half hour without ever really penetrating us as we were very organised and held a good shape, i thought the Ref had a so so game, Reus produced 3/4 yellow worthy tackles in the 1st half alone that went un-punished, also thought Can's yellow was very harsh, it suited us that the ref was a bit whistle happy tbh so i cant complain too much.
Hendo done nothing with the ball yesterday, a good workhorse but lacking in so many basic things like looking up and giving an early ball, he really isnt the player he was before his injury and creatively hes far too limited for me, I dont feel he is captain material at all, i agree you could do better than hendo but if you did happen to buy him he would probably do really well under poch as i feel he'd keep it simple for him in regards to his role more so than whats required of him now with us.
Moreno's ridiculous tackle in the last ten minutes was very softly dealt with, too.
He was lucky to escape a red, so the complete lack of a card was incredibly generous.
2nd leg should be interesting. A goalless draw would take you through, but it would be a big risk to play for it.

It was their first away win of the season ! I know which approach I'd prefer. The same logic that applies to them basically throwing the towel in on la liga (that they don't stand a chance of winning it) surely applies even more so to the CL...so what do they hope to gain from it other than 15 minutes of fame and some money that'll probably be enough to get them within 20 points of Barca next season?
I know I'm pretty biased on the topic as I've said since day 1 that the EL should be used to experiment with different formations and line ups and to blood in new signings/youngsters, but in all honesty there just isn't any point in winning it (other than the shiny trophy) if you're miles away from the standard required for the CL. Dortmund, Villareal and maybe Shaktar are the only teams who are at that level already, largely because they regularly compete in the CL as it is.
The whole 'reward' seems to be in place to service the teams who dropped out of the CL into the EL in the first place, because for majority of the other competitors, winning a golden ticket to the CL will end up being simply humiliating.
