Curious, were expectations too high to begin with? Genuinely interested to see responses.

I don't think so, it's directly linked to expenditure and team value. We've spent a lot of a money so obviously we expect expensive players to deliver results. MK Dons, who have spent barely anything and have just come up from League 1, were expected to be in a relegation battle and they are. We've just come down from the Premier League, have (apparently) a very good manager, have kept many quality players and brought in a few as well. Where should our expectations lie?

i expect expectations matched the squad, club and circumstances
ie whilst trying to avoid relegation in division 4 we had a div 4 team that had to sell its best players to survive
then Adam Pearson rocked up, spent some money and bought a better player so expectations grew, we are now playing ****e and have been for a while with an expensively assembled squad so them expectations are still high. (in fact they arent high just relevant to the squad status)
If we were in the pl the expectaions would drop as we wouldnt have one of the best squads

I think the expectations increased at the end of the Summer transfer window. Add to that Livermore and Snodgrass coming back it was like having two expensive replacements. Then, when you see the development of Maguire (well we all saw it the manager has yet to see it) you had to look and think we had the makings of something excellent. Unfortunately, you can have all the ingredients to make a great cake, but if you have no recipe or no chef you cant just throw it in a bowl and expect it to turn out right.

This - 100%. People keep going on about our players now being amazing but there's zero ****ing evidence of it. It doesn't matter how good their name is if they don't play well.

Nobody wants a return to the dark days, however,to suggest we should all grateful of what we have or that what Bruce has achieved is as high as we can go is just plain bonkers. Living in the past and quoting facts and figures about how we have underachieved reeks of small club mentality.

Worse things happen at sea. In fact they are happening all over the world. We lost so what ?

Still plenty of points (21) left to play for and certainly nobody who should worry us IF we play
    anything like.

Not really. It is in the DNA of Hull City. We never do anything the easy way and I guess we never will.

Just can't see it mate this season, our best hope would be getting Wednesday in the play-offs, squeaking past them and then hoping for pens in the play-off final at best

Crazy thing is few would really want us over two legs, but everyone would fancy beating us home and away.

That's just the same old tripe Leeds fans trot out which you scorn them for.

Yes it could have been a whole lot worse but that's no reason to be content with failure. Failure is failure and, with the astronomical budget Steve Bruce has had at his disposal, this can't be classed as anything but. Let's be honest, how many squads in the second tier have ever cost £60m to put together? Newcastles possibly? And they pissed the league with 100 odd points.

    The best players are consistent.

Great players that aren't consistent are usually sold by the bigger clubs.

Mourinho only wanted players who did it every game, not once in a while.

We can't afford constantly good players and hence we have performances that can be great, but are often ****e

The bottom end places of leagues are as unpredictable as their teams.

It doesn't matter how long we've spent in the premier league. It doesn't matter how many times we go up and down. These things have absolutely **** all effect to the 11 players on the pitch on a match day.

And perhaps what you should have said is it took WBA/Palace 3/4 managers before they sorted their **** out.
