Wijnaldum......quality player, just looks like he doesn't give a damn. Love Mitrovic's passion, someone you can believe in.
Love his passion, But he's a young lad, and will only get slower with age which is a worry, cause he's ****ing slow!
That seriously is something you don't need to worry about, it'll be like ten years time that he starts getting slower!!!!
What pick up in form? Scuffing a couple in vs the worst defences in the league? Genuine question: Leon Best or Mitrovic? If your answer is not Leon, you are a silly person!
I liked Best but he was very injury prone. He only managed about 40 odd games in 3 seasons. Looked awful when he arrived but had a decent spell with Demba up top - actually looked potent at one stage. I'd still go Mitrovic. he has looked a little better to me, but I do think him and Perez have been poor. The service to them has been absolutely awful of course - McClaren couldn't organise a piss in a brewery nevermind pose an attacking threat. Personally I think Mitrovic and Perez are good young players who I'd be happy to see providing back up to two more experienced and proven strikers. I'm sure I said this at the start of the season too when people got all excited I think they are both suffering because they are being asked to do something they are not yet capable of - lead the line in the PL and score the requisite goals to maintain PL status. No other club would be asking this of two lads their age.
Maybe not down where we are... but... Martial, Rashford, Lukaku, Kane... Mane last season... I liked Perez, and still see potential because he has the movement and creativity of a premier league striker, he's just a bit of a soft touch and easily marshalled out of games. As I said previously, he would have gone to Barca B and dropped out of the game in a couple of years. I think there is vastly more potential in him being sold on if he has a decent game or two in the remaining fixtures. Mitrovic is a ****ing carthorse. His movement is ****e (put more simply, he doesn't move at all). His finishing is worse. His headed-finishing, for a target-man, is atrocious. He will never be a prolific goalscorer. He is thought of as a thug by opposition defenders and he is strong enough and mental enough to unsettle them, but if I were the manager of the other team I would tell the defence to leave him, he'll never score.
Three of the four mentioned are far superior to Mitrovic. Different markets though, we are Newcastle. Rashford? **** knows but you can't fail to like what you have seen so far. I don't mind us having a target man in the squad. I think Mitrovic may turn into a decent one. It won't be here though. He won't hang about, he is already not first choice at international level - he needs to be scoring goals somewhere. He needs a lot of work I wouldn't dispute that for a second. Likewise Perez. Both have major flaws for the type of players they are. To me though both are young enough to develop. They are never going to be world beaters or even world class. However they could do a decentish job for a mid table side.
Certainly is right now, think he might benefit and build up more confidence playing a year in the Championship, same with Perez. Perez 7 goals last year in his first everyone seemed happy with Mitrovic is now on 8.
The difference of course is the expectation with which they were bought. Perez was 'one for the future' whose selection was forced by an injury crisis and ended up being one of the high points of that season. Mitrovic was the basket into which all our eggs were placed last summer, and he's struggled to live up to it (which in all honesty I think is the club's fault more than his). IMO, Perez will move on and Mitro will stick around and do better next season. There's a chance we'll lose both though.
Is it fair to other teams in the championship to let two such prolific goalscorers loose among them , they could score up to 17 or 18 goals between them next season
8 goals not 6!!! Did you completely ignore Saturday?? Thus making him our second top scorer, only 1 behind Gini's 9, and as 4 of Gini's were in one match, giving Gini very flattering stats. He started with a flurry of cards, but quickly calmed down, and his disciplinary record recently is far better than the likely of Colback, Tiote, Janmaat, Shelvey, etc. As for missing sitters....hardly! Cisse is the culprit there! The fact is that he isn't an out and out goalscorer, but would make a perfect partner for a more regular goal scorer - he's big, strong, holds the ball up excellently, takes defenders out, and as he's recently proving, he has an eye for goal. Not a loan striker, but in a front 3 with Perez and De Jong he'd work well. One of the few decent lads in a **** season, don't be dissing the Mitro.
Arguably one of our players of the season. First season in the PL, in a **** team playing as a lone striker. He's done well. He was never going to be a 20 goal a season striker. As for sitters - Cisse last week.
That is ridiculous... Alan Shearer 1990-91 Played 36 Scored 4 Aleksandar Mirtrovic 2015-16 Played 28 Scored 8 League games and first proper season with 10+ appearances in the EPL. Leon Best take your pills fella you having a moment.
Sorry, Dungeon Master, I have to agree with GTA on this point. Have made the same/similar point to friends re Mitro/Shearer at same age.
The things to consider: Is Mitrovic a 20 goal per season striker - No Is he a target man - Yes Will he score goals - Yes Does he do his job well- Yes Does he improve the team by playing - Yes Will he get better - Yes Is there too much unrealistic pressure on him - Yes Does he need a pacey strike partner - Yes Is it his fault that the club didn't sign a goalscorer - No Is he highly rated by those in the game - Yes Is he a flop - No Will he go on to bigger and better things - Definitely.
Maybe he will turn out a good un, we'll just have to wait and see on that score. Like him or not, one thing that can't be taken away, is that goal against the scum. The Man who stopped that f****** run. Like many, I have my doubts about him, but, if nothing else, he deserves a chance for that alone.
